The politically charged decisions by veteran Democratic Reps. Charles Rangel of New York and Maxine Waters of California to force public trials by the House ethics committee are raising questions about race and whether black lawmakers face more scrutiny over allegations of ethical or criminal wrongdoing than their white colleagues.
The controversy over the cases and the prospect of the first simultaneous ethics trials for multiple members in more than 30 years mark the biggest challenge for the ethics committees and the Houses ability to police its own members since the mid-1990s, when then-Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and leaders from both parties found themselves hauled before the secretive panel.
The question of whether black lawmakers are now being singled out for scrutiny has been simmering throughout the 111th Congress, with the Office of Congressional Ethics a focal point of the concerns. At one point earlier this year, all eight lawmakers under formal investigation by the House ethics committee, including Rangel and Waters, were black Democrats. All those investigations originated with the OCE, which can make recommendations but takes no final actions on such cases.

Anybody who didn’t see this coming is an idiot.
So what is the answer? Blacks are or aren’t capable of ethics?
The dims lose this either way they go.
the GOP should keep their mouths shut until/unless the perps get a free walk...then, and only then raise hell.
Other than slavery, Jim Crow Laws, the Klan, Internment, Lynchings, and Affirmative Action. The Dems don't really have much of a history of racial bias.
Ethics, ethnics: either way I have no right to discuss.
Singled out or not.. the question is are they guilty???
Playing the victim does not excuse a crime.
Aw come on!!! You white folks don’t know the way of the hood. Bill Clinton got away with doing a hell of a lot more than Charlie. Old Rangel ought to spill the beans on all his former comrads who are now tossing him to the wolves.
Meanwhile the “ethics” case that Chris Bell (D-Texas) raised against Tom DeLay STILL has not been brought to trial (it’s purpose was to taint the GOP leadership and hound him out of office).
Politico can go screw their Journolist buddies.
No, it's that they're capable grifters just like whites. For some reason, Congresscritters have a harder time looking themselves in the mirror...
It depends on if they are in public office or not. But those I have met through my life have taught me that the answer is in most cases NO they aren’t. Just like a liberal they are always justifying their being unethical.
>> raising questions about race and whether black lawmakers face more scrutiny over allegations of ethical or criminal wrongdoing than their white colleagues
YES, INDEED! Let’s RAISE that question. Shall we?
Black ‘rats of ALL sorts —legislators/judges/presidents/racial superiority advocates — DO NOT face MORE scrutiny.
Rather, as members of a protected political class, they face MUCH LESS scrutiny.
Please please PLEASE bring this sad truth into the light of day. I dare you!
And that is exactly what is going through Charlie's mind...
'Why shouldn't I? It's small purse stuff compared to the former President. He raised the corruption bar so far I barely have to limo, er, limbo my fat azz under it.'
Well, they may have a point...both Dodd and Bawney Frank should have been tried and dumped, but they skated.
However, I think the ethically challenged blacks will skate too, and this is just a preemptive shot across the bow.
The Politico plays the race card. Well will WONDERS never cease!!!
“Ethics cases raise racial questions”
yeah, like this “racial question”:
“Why are black democRats in Congress so corrupt?”
I’m actually surprised it took so long for the screams of racism!
Too Black to fail!
When they’re losing they cry racism.
