RIVERHEAD, N.Y. - A town on New York's Long Island is using Google Earth to find backyard pools that don't have the proper permits.
The town of Riverhead has used the satellite image service to find about 250 pools whose owners never filled out the required paperwork.
Violators were told to get the permits or face hefty fines. So far about $75,000 in fees has been collected.
Riverhead's chief building inspector Leroy Barnes Jr. said the unpermitted pools were a safety concern. He said that without the required inspections there was no way to know whether the pools' plumbing, electrical work and fencing met state and local regulations.
"Pool safety has always been my concern," Barnes said.

After pools will come “decks” and then Home Owner Associations will start snooping for sheds, the wrong kind of fences, campers, compost heaps, and on and on it goes ...
Faulty systems will reveal themselves with certainty.

Interesting take Leroy. You seem to imply that the failures in plumbing, electrical and fencing would somehow be the responsibility of the city and not the individuals Home Owners Insurance? Methinks Riverside is just short on their budget and are squeezing the good burghers. I have noticed a whole hell of a lot of increased “speed” enforcement in my neck of the woods. Methinks its a response to budget shortfalls and not increased speeding occurences. Just sayin.
Communists don’t stop until they have all your money.
bttt
Looks like i need to buy some camoflage netting for the M777.
Big Brother would be so proud.
We sure are a free people, aren’t we. Big Brother is here.
It’s revenueing by the City. 250 illegal Pools!? C’mon, those things have been there for years, and the city knew about them. The city needs the money now, so they are getting as creative as so many other cities thanks to the Obama recession.
Some cities are raking in the cash destroying citizens driving records with photo ticketing scams. Others are raising monies through questionable permitting laws, and on, and on.
It’ll all come back around one day when we take control from the Left again. Meanwhile people are getting really pissed off.

There are out like locusts here in MA.
Breaking news!....New big seller at Home Depot!...Pool camouflage!
That’s the ticket!
a lot of State governments have been sending my business invoices of up to $20,000 of sales taxes that we allegedly owe them.
We’ve had to pay our staff to go through hoops to show documentation that we owe nothing.
I think it’s like that scam where a supplies company will send someone some office supplies and an invoice of $1000 out of the blue, and hope that some businesses will eventually pay it.
Don’t know about pools here on the Left Coast but I think Google Earth revealed quite clearly the number of homes where the backyard fences had been illegally extended on the railroad right-of-way, including, I think, some pool construction.
Don't forget vegetable gardens...need to find out who is "hoarding" food in a crisis.
Pot plants are next?............
