Jewish hostility to Christians: the prejudice no one ever writes about
The Daily Telegraph ^ | July 29, 2010 | Damian Thompson

The case of the Oxford lecturer in Jewish studies who says she was sacked after she converted to Christianity has thrown a spotlight on to an acutely sensitive subject. I have no idea whether Dr Tali Argov was treated unfairly – that’s for the employment tribunal to decide – but let’s not pretend that Jews who become Christians don’t face intense disapproval from their own community.

Christian anti-Semitism, Muslim anti-Semitism, Christian Islamophobia, Muslim persecution of Christians – all of these are acceptable topics of debate. But not Jewish hostility to Christianity.

Be shunned by your community, or decapitated or stonned to death. Take your pick.

It’s another burden of living for Christ. It looks like whatever panel evaluated her was dominated by religious Jews who took the theological position that a Christian, and especially a Christian who comes to that faith from Judaism, cannot grok Jewish history. It’s a theological bias and not a rational, empirical conclusion.

Or maybe they just have an historical grudge against Christians. Couldn’t it be so simple?

Big deal. There’s prejudice in all walks of life. If someone is rude, then it’s time to get rude back. If someone threatens physical harm like the ROP, then it’s time to arm up. As long as the earth is inhabited, there will be prejudices, hatred and bigotry and no amount of legislating will ever change that.

Christian anti-Semitism, Muslim anti-Semitism, Christian Islamophobia, Muslim persecution of Christians

Muslim anti-semitism usually ends in a body count. Christian islamophobia is a fraudulent concept. Doesn't exist. Christians like most people don't like being incinerated in their offices, but thats not a phobia.

Muslim persecution of Christians, again, is real and usually generates a body count which, come to think of it, would cause normal people to be on their guard with likely suspects. Thats not a phobia, though, its a normal reaction.

This guy is really trying hard to present as equal things that aren't equal. When a Christian doesn't like someone, in fact when a Jew doesn't like someone they don't invite them to dinner. Or they do, but they direct their conversation to someone else at the dinner table.

When muslims don't like someone it winds up on the evening news.

Most who live in modern Western countries know better, or should.

Well, articles like this should help stem the tide of Jews to the Republican ranks, huh? There are few real news stories anymore, most are created for some political reason. Not hard to guess this one, is it.

Because Christians back Israel?

Sometimes, it seems, even more than their own culture and country. I mean American Christians. It's bizarre.

This is a “hit” piece on all Jews through the technique of focusing on the most extreme/fundamentalist near-sects of Judaism.

THe greater majority of Jews do not hate Jews who convert. We puzzle over it, but then we read a newspaper. Move on, no real story worth kvetching over.

And we are only dealing with a small number of converts to and from Christianity and Judaism. It happens and we can get over it. We’re all big boys and girls now.

I view Christians, including the fundamentalists and some evangelicals, to be the best friends of Jews and Israel around.

Go to Dearborn and see if you can say the same thing about the Moslems there (and some Lebanon Christians) re being the best friends of Christians and of the U.S.

There is a difference. This article is crap, and deliberately so.

There have occasionally been articles posted here on FR regarding anti-Christian sentiment and actions by Jews in Israel. There are FReepers who will jump right down the throat of anyone who expresses concern about this.

I believe Christians who back Israel are, also, American Patriots. At least that is my experience.

Oh goody. An article about the bad, bad Jews who might think Judaism should not be taught by someone who doesn’t believe in it, from an anti-Jewish british newspaper, in a notoriously anti-Jewish country, by an author named Damian.
That’s just priceless.
