To those who say he does not have “name recognition” and therefore can not win.... think about this for a moment. A few days ago most folks never heard the name PFC Bradley Manning... But he is now a “household name”... why? because when something is important people “talk”....
IMHO we need to START talking about Dr. William Escoffery III in the State of Florida.. of the 22 candidates running for the U.S. Senate Seat in Florida Dr. William Escoffery seems to be best “REAL citizen/candidate”.
I just talked to Dr. Escoffery on the phone. He is the right man for the job but does not have the right staff in place to help get his message out on the social media which is critical to NAME RECOGNITION... he is also under attack by the FL-GOP because he is capturing the GRASS ROOTS votes... we only have 24 days before the primary to get his name out there. I really enjoyed the conversation I just had with him, you should call him, he can use the encouragement ! 850-225-7228 hopefully I can get some grass roots folks on FreeRepublic to help him fix his website.. It really needs some aesthetic work... the content is great ! and it is the message the conservative grass roots folks are craving but they will not spend more that 10 seconds on a site that is hard to navigate.. Do you know any web techies that can help? I just don’t have the time.
please call me or FreepMail me if you can help.
To the WIKIPEDIA fans/FRieds please help clean up the wiki page for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Escoffery
Secondly, comparing your guy to the guy who sold our secrets is not exactly the way to make your guy look good. For someone to become a "household name," he must do something interesting or notorious. Being an obscure candidate for US Senate in a state with much bigger names in the race doesn't make him either interesting or notorious.
Thirdly, the average person on the street probably doesn't know Manning's name. If you gave me the name without attaching his rank, I might not recognize the name. The guy should be punished for his crimes to the highest extent of the law, but his name is less important than other issues around the case. I try to keep up with current events, and the average voter is unlikely to remember Manning any more than I am.
This election will be about jobs and the economy. Unless Dr. Escoffery is clearly better than Mr. Rubio by a huge margin on these issues, no one is going to want to spend that much effort raising an obscure candidate to a winning position in 24 days. I'm guessing that most Floridians are also thinking about the impact of Deepwater Horizon oil on the tourist industry. Republicans should be foresighted enough to realize that unless there is gasoline to put in cars to drive to the beach, having clean beaches won't be enough to revive the tourist industry. Again, unless Dr. Escoffery is clearly better than Mr. Rubio by a huge margin on this issue, he's not going to get any traction.
If I were in Florida, I have some pet issues that could drive me into supporting a fringe candidate in the primary, but the importance of getting the Democrats out of power would force me to hold my nose and vote for a Republican in the general election.
I appreciate your post, I was only making the point about “name recognition” because I get sick of people saying that so and so is a great candidate for this office but he/she can’t win because they don’t have the “name recognition”... All I can do is help Dr. Escoffery clean up his website and help put his message out to the social media, because in the end I really think if folks take 5 mins to compare Dr. Escoffery to Marco Rubio or Charlie Crist they will come to the same conclusion that I have. While I appreciate your post I would encourage Floridians to support the BEST candidate in the PRIMARY! and for the U.S. Senate Seat in Florida, that is Dr. Escoffery, IMHO.
in response to the rest of your post. Up until this afternoon I figured I was going to be “forced” to vote for Rubio in the Primary until I got an e-mail from a friend asking me to take a look at Dr. Escoffery who I had never heard of. Instead of duing “internet research” I picked up my phone and called him. After a brief conversation I came to the conclusion that his story should be told and let the voters decide. I plan to help him clean up his website and help get his message out to as many Floridians as possible between now and the Primary (August 24th). Forget the “name recogination” and compare the LIFE STORY of Mr. Rubio and Dr. Escoffery and decide based on that who will BEST represent the State of Florida in the U.S. Senate.
Using that criteria I believe Dr. Escoffery wins hands down. HOWEVER, as a realist, I understand most voters will NOT take the time to do that and just pull the lever for the GOP’s “favorite” and that is a tragic. I hope the conservative people of Florida prove me wrong and vote for Dr. Escoffery for U.S. Senate on August 24th 2010.
A second point is that helping him clean up the website isn't going to be effective without a huge amount of other work. For the candidates that no one knows, the most important first step is making personal contacts. If you are going to push his campaign, you are going to have to go door to door telling people that he is running and asking for their votes. Only if you are willing to make that effort is there any chance for his website to do any good for him. You can't reach that many people going door to door alone, so you're going to have to recruit people into his campaign. Each of them will need to go door to door. That kind of personal campaigning can be horribly awkward and tiring, but that's what wins elections.
or
for most folks today door to door has been replaced with FaceBook and Twitter :)
On Marco Rubio's website, there is a little more about his life than what you collected. He's worked as a lawyer and a professor. He's served on the boards of several organizations.
Again, the question is what in Dr. Escoffery's background would make him that much more effective a senator than Mr. Rubio? I don't see anything that would make me think that he would be that much more effective a senator. While I would love to see a time when we send people to the Senate or House for less than ten years, we aren't at that time yet and aren't likely to be there in the next twenty years. Dr. Escoffery is 66 years old. He's questionable for a second term, and 66 is a bit old to be a freshman senator. He seems to be a great guy, but I can't see him being more effective as a senator.
The notion that door to door campaigning has been replaced by Facebook and Twitter is fiction. Facebook and Twitter were helpful for Barak Obama mobilizing young voters and volunteers in the Democratic primary. Otherwise, the only people who say that you can win elections with Facebook and Twitter alone are the Facebook and Twitter advertising departments and people who are unwilling to do the hard work of real campaigning. Millions of voters don't use either of these online services, and an effective campaign has to have more than just people sitting around fiddling with their computers. An underdog campaign has to be effective online, but the online campaign has to work hand-in-hand with a strong traditional campaign.
BTTT
Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my comments on this thread. At the risk of overstating the obvious here is my response.
We are at a very critical time in our nations history.. one that has been thrust upon us by the career politicians who are so out of touch with mainstream America that it is time for WE THE PEOPLE to fulfill our constitutional responsibility and retake control of Our Government before Our Government takes IRREVERSIBLE control of US.
When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with anotherTHE CAREER POLITICIANS WHO ARE DESTROYING OUR NATION and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind THE AMERICAN PEOPLE requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
It is my opinion that comparing Dr. Escoffery and Marco Rubio, side by side the person BEST SUITED to do this is clearly and unequivocally Dr. Escoffery. If Marco Rubio really wants to represent Florida in the U.S. Senate my suggestion is that he spend the next couple of years getting some REAL WORLD experience and come came back in 2012 to defeat Sen. Bill Nelson. We need Dr. Escoffery in there NOW !
You need to take yourself out to the woodshed for even saying that about Dr. Escoffery..
...in fact folks who read that would probably vote for Dr. Escoffery if that is the best argument that the "other guy" can come up with.... :)
You are handing the election to Crist...wake UP!
Crist is a vote for the Dems.
Vote Rubio in November!!
voting for Rubio in November assumes that he won the Primary in August. That is over 3 weeks from now
If we support real conservatives in primary we will not have to hold our nose in November. Don’t lecture me about how I need to vote for the party favorite in the Primary. Conservatives who voted for John Mccain in the 2008 PRIMARY are responsible for giving us OBAMA.
