My first wife bought a 1971 Chevy Vega with her dad, which should have been my signal to end the engagement. When the automatic shifted, the entire car lurched, and the front quarter-panels rusted through within a year. Too bad they did not change the name of the car from the Volt to the Obama, so we could get a headstart on his legacy.

...and there’s the Nissan Leaf, it’s competition. A product of the free market, selling for $32,000, and getting 100 miles on a tank of electricity instead of 40. The Chevy Volt is classic GM, the sort of noncompetitive garbage that helped take the company into bankruptcy in the first place.

a golf cart would be more efficient, and we could have trade a horse stations to pull it when the battery dies. There ya go, just saved a billion bucks of federal wasteful spending..

Government-assisted bankruptcy will get you a green car every time.

Just keep calling it the ‘Obama Volt’ a la Rush. This is why Gibbs went off on Limbaugh the other day. They know that if it is associated with Obama and it fails (as it will), it is another very big nail in Barry’s political coffin.

LOL $41,000 for a car that Americans are supposed to buy in this economy?

A car that has to be plugged in every 40 miles and add to our electric bills, that will “necessarily skyrocket” soon?

When the battery no longer holds it’s charge and must be replaced, how much is that going to cost?

obama, King of the Stupid, may your name forever be married to the name Volt.

For starters, G.M.’s vision turned into a car that costs $41,000 before relevant tax breaks ... but after billions of dollars of government loans and grants OUR hard earned TAX MONEY for the Volt’s development and production.

This is the second time in a *week* that the New York Slimes has agreed substantively with Rush Limbaugh.

First the Oil Spill (nature recovering quickly), and now the Volt.

It must be a sign of the End.

And 2012 is just around the corner...

Cheers!

I cry in joy that the Times has,at least in this piece, turned on Obama. The auto bailout is one of the ‘achievements’ that Obama has touted. Heck will they go after health care next or is that too much to ask for?

Just bought a new car, and Chrysler and GM weren’t even considered, owing to their ownership. Everyone should give pause to any vehicle produced by the UAW, as they have shown they are willing accomplices to the socialization of Amerika.

By taking a loss on the first several years of Prius production, Toyota was able to hold its price steady, and then sell the gas-sippers in huge numbers when oil prices soared. Today a Prius costs roughly the same in inflation-adjusted dollars as those 1997 models did, and it has become the best-selling Toyota in the United States after the evergreen Camry and Corolla.

Toyota knows how to run a profitable business.

Also, Toyota's hybrids are even showing up as taxis; apparently their in-town performance is considered desirable by some number of taxi companies.

This car will go down in history as the infamous “brownout” initiator in major cities.

I have seen compact cars like the Pinto converted to have a golf cart electric drive on the rear axle and a couple of deep cycle batteries, actually any front wheel drive can be converted to a half gas half electric vehicle.

I have a Chevy Lumina van that is sitting on my property and it would be a good hybrid project for me. plenty of room for some batteries in the rear.
