Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) said Thursday that he and his office mishandled the politics surrounding tax questions on his new $7 million yacht.
“I don’t think I dealt with it fast enough, effectively enough. There’s nobody to blame but myself for that,” Kerry said Thursday in an interview with the Boston Globe.
Throughout the weeklong story, Kerry has insisted that he will pay whatever state taxes are owed – estimated to be $500,000 – on the yacht.
Kerry has so far not had to pay Massachusetts’ taxes on the boat because it is based in Rhode Island, saving Kerry from technically having to pay the Bay State’s sales, usage and excise taxes on the boat. But Kerry said the decision to have the boat stay in Rhode Island had nothing to do with tax issues. Aides have said work is being done on the recently purchased yacht in Rhode Island.
“I’d be crazy to think that I’m going to be doing that, and that was never our long-term intention here,” Kerry said of any speculation that he wanted to avoid taxes.

You don’t mind the guys and gals that made the money themselves, it’s the rich self righteous liberals who lecture the little people about paying their taxes , reducing their carbon footprint and not caring about the poor, those are the ones that gall you.
We can only assume that a&^ holes like this approach their occupational responsibilities with the same level and degree of professional expertise and personal regard.

Must be nice to be able to only pay 3% of your income in taxes, and for that income to be in millions of dollars. But I scoff when such a man in such a privileged financial situation says we are not paying enough in taxes at more than TEN TIMES THE RATE on less than one tenth as much money.

I hate to say it, but I now think Kerry would be a better president than Obama.
Not only that, the boat was bought in New Zealand, and Massachusetts marine merchants and craftsmen are questioning why he went overseas when the economy here could use the business.
