WASHINGTON - Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said yesterday hes talked with other senators about crafting a constitutional amendment that would deny U.S. citizenship to illegal aliens children born in the United States.
Grahams idea is an abrupt about-face for a senator whose advocacy of giving legal status to the nations 12 million illegals prompted radio host Rush Limbaugh to call him Sen. Grahamnesty.
Graham, along with President George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) led a 2007 failed immigration reform effort that would have created a path to citizenship for illegal aliens.

Hot damn.
Has he talked about crafting a bill clarifying the 14th ammendment as written first?
Ping!
Graham isn’t up for reelection, is he?
We will all be dead and gone before this amendment is ratified. They need to clarify the 14th with a law..and see if it stands up. Better still..they need to start deporting illegals and closing the border.
There is no need to clarify the 14th amendment. The 14th amendment wasn't about giving citizenship to anchor babies.
The 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868 to protect the citizenship rights of native-born Black Americans.
Senator Jacob Howard who helped draft the 14th amendment said in 1868...
I’d forgive him for some of his sins if he pushed this through!
Only in our dreams would this ever happen.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said yesterday hes talked with other senators about crafting a constitutional amendment that would deny U.S. citizenship to illegal aliens children born in the United States.”
The pure definition of Statesmanshit.
I can’t WAIT to see this idiot thrown out...
What an absolute fraud-
He an McCain should open an chain of ammo shops in Nuevo Laredo and be done with it.
Maybe he is coming out of the closet. I did not mean to imply like homosexual stuff but that he was a closet conservative or something (sarc).
Grahams notion of a constitutional amendment to end automatic citizenship for the newborn of illegal immigrants got a mixed reception even from groups that back tougher enforcement of the nations border restrictions.
Mark Krikorian, an analyst with the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, said eliminating birthright citizenship would actually increase the number of illegal immigrants.
Children who would have been citizens, Krikorian said, would become illegal aliens were Grahams constitutional amendment pass Congress and be ratified by the states.
Im exactly against changing this, he said. I think its sort of a stupid thing. You would end up with lots of U.S.-born illegal immigrants. Theres something like 300,000 kids born here to illegal immigrants every year.
Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Washington-based Federation for American Immigration Reform, said Congress has the power to prohibit automatic citizenship for undocumented workers babies through legislation rather than a constitutional amendment.
Mehlman, though, said he wouldnt have expected Graham to be backing such an idea.
Just as cynical as anything Reid is doing.
Yup.
What Goober is really saying is that he doesn't want such a simple law, and he uses the 14th amendment as a smoke screen.
We've already got 20 plus million of their anchor kids...
Now they want to make some kind of law?
Disgusting....
Krikorian is a good guy, but ending birthright citizenship is a must. We have to put a stop to anchor babies.
Graham is lying. If he is willing to grant citizenship to illegals, he isn’t going to deny it to their children. Let’s hear him propose something of substance.
I think ending the anchor-baby situation is the only way to fix our immigration problem. It’s not just Latinos, either. I read an article the other day about Chinese pregnant women taking trips over here (supposed “vacations”) to get that citizenship for their kids. China! That’s not next door. But it’s getting to be a fair-sized business there.
No. He is near the beginning of his current term. He still has just over 4 years to go as I recall.
“What an absolute fraud-”
Fraud or not, if we could get a bill like this through with no mass amnesty...
