Fox News Poll: Republicans Garner 11-Point Lead in Midterms
Fox News ^ | 07/29/2010

With less than 100 days until the midterm elections, American voters would give the edge to Republicans by an 11 percentage-point margin if the Congressional election were today. Yet a majority doesn't think a Republican takeover of Congress would lead to positive change.

A Fox News poll released Thursday finds that if Americans were heading to the voting booth today, they would back the Republican candidate in their district over the Democrat by 47-36 percent. Two weeks ago the Republicans had a slimmer 4-point advantage (41-37 percent).

As has been the case all year, Republicans continue to be more interested in the upcoming election. Thirty-six percent of Republicans are "extremely" interested compared to 23 percent of Democrats.

Despite the Republican edge on the generic ballot question, voters have mixed views on how things would change if the GOP gained control of Congress. Thirty-eight percent think there would be no real change. Thirty-seven percent think it would lead to change for the better, while 21 percent say it would change for the worse.

Even a third of Republicans (33 percent) think there would be no change — though a 63 percent majority does think it would be an improvement. Less than half of Democrats (45 percent) say a Republican takeover would lead to a change for the worse, and several (38 percent) say there would be no real difference.

Well, if the Rs take the house and or the senate, they’ll put and end to the bad change we’re getting right now.

I have no idea what kind of crazy plans the Dems have for 2011, and I don’t want to find out.

There might be some people who are voting R not because they’ll see immediate positive change but because they want to stop Obama’s bad change. Voting R would do exactly that.

“Honestly, no, I don’t believe a Republican takeover of Congress would lead to significantly better governance.”

That depends on the post election activity of the Tea Party and conservative activists. If anyone thinks that they can go to sleep if/after Republicans win the House, we will again see Republicans co-opted by the Left. Conservatives have won some primaries and given rinos a run for their money like never before. We know we will get some rinos and when we do we must pressure them after the election and if they do not perform, we must put up a vigorous primary challenge. The TP and patriot groups help to give us an organizational vehicle to better pressure rinos and wayward conservatives. Dims, of course, will be completely unresponsive to our needs and concerns.

We may not get much legislative change during the next election cycle, but we will stop the Leftist tide and gain the right to conduct investigations of the administration.

Great news. I wish there was at least a state-by-state breakdown, which is more important.

I’d be a lot happier if those Republicans were ALL conservatives.

Interesting that this Fox result on the Generic Congressional Ballot is about the same as Rasmussen's last one, yet Fox is sampling all registered voters while Rasmussen does likely voters. So, because of the enthusiasm gap, Fox's results bode even better for the GOP, at least if taken at face value.

What's really shocking is that in party identification, the GOP had a four point lead! This is the first time I've ever seen such a poll result since the Reagan era, if at all. This could either indicate a real and important shift in party ID or be due to an error in sampling technique whereby Republicans were overpolled.

Are we sure FOX did not oversample Republicans ( just as the other liberal pollers like CNN are wont to oversample Democrats ) ?

Are we sure FOX did not oversample Republicans...?

Can't answer that. Best to ask that to the pollster who devised the technique and see what he/she has to say. There is no polling firm mentioned, to the best of my knowledge, so I'd presume Fox has their own in-house polling subdivision if that's the case.
