Yesterday afternoon I was painting a room in the back & I had NPR on & they had an interview w/ Arne Duncan. What really struck me , as both a teacher & a voter, was his extreme smugness and his total amusement at the interview. He was talking about the scamorama “Race to the Top” initiative.
Basically he’s getting huge bucks to have schools have an old fashioned fight for money.School starts for me soon & in my district we again will be expected to have children w/ no exposure to culture, reading, or parenting do as well as kids at a Connecticut prep school. There are no realistic expectations in education anymore. Remember when people had the realistic knowledge that many students just weren’t college material? Now EVERYONE should go to college according to this administration......... and that’s part of the problem; I work w/ way too many people who had no business going to college, let alone getting a degree that was handed to them. Teachers are blamed for things they have utterly no control over. No wonder these young, fresh, excited teachers flee for the hills after a few years.

I our world, you are correct, and obama is wrong. The funny thing about it all is that even in obama's world he's not right. I heard on the morning drive in that with the health care debacle that is coming our way, the first monies from the federal coffers go towards health care, NOT education, like they do now. So, in obama's world Health care providers are the most important thing in a child's life THEN a teacher.
Man, I can't wait to hear the howling from the teacher's unions when they figure out that obama has taken a piece of their pie and given it to someone else.
As the parent of an Eagle, I’m glad Barry 0 chose not to speak at the Jamboree.
He is the antithesis of all that scouting stands for.
He would have just introduced a negative into a worthy celebration.
Dr. Gates, an Eagle himself, spoke eloquently to the Scouts yesterday about integrity and honor. That was appropriate and by far better than any of the platitudes that would have come out of Barry’s lying lips.

That is true, except in districts like mine where most of the parents should no more be allowed to have a roach as a pet .... let alone have the one, two, three, or more children they can’t even begin to parent.
