House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Tuesday noted that it was Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), not him, who promised to drain the swamp of corruption in Washington.
Pelosi famously vowed in 2006 to drain the swamp that ensnared Republican members and their leaders during the George W. Bush administration.
During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Hoyer clarified that he has never used that phrase.
"I didnt use that term," Hoyer said when asked if he thinks Democrats have "drained the swamp." "What I believed and continue to believe is that we have made the ethics process work, and we have made it work in a meaningful way."

Another profile in courage—I never said we’d end corruption, so don’t get mad at us for Rangle, etc.!
‘made the ethics process work...’
It’s an alternate reality there.
Oh good grief, they’re ALL guilty as sin. “Draining the swamp”....so bogus.
Soft, pudgy and looking kinda gay,...who knew Steny could sing?
By the way, nice ascot.
Meaning it works against thee but not me.
Drain the swamp? I dunno, but that sounds either racist or sexist to me.
It’s completely anti-environment. Preserve the wetlands!
A good newsie would engage in some basic cross-examination here:
Do you agree that this House was an ethical “swamp.”
Do you agree that the “swamp” needed to be drained?
If no; then you disagree with Ms. Pelosi that your House was a swamp?
You don’t believe that there was a lack of ethics under the previous Congresses?
If yes:
What specific investigations have you done to see to it that this “swamp” is being drained?
What have you done to prosecute the ethics complaints against Rep. Charles Wrangel? What did you do to investigate and prosecute ethics complaints against Rep. William Jefferson? What is your reaction to Sen. John Kerry’s attempt to avoid lawful excise taxes imposed by the State he represents?
Go down the list.
Either way, he will sound like the political whore he is.

I hope they jump through all the hoops, get all the ducks in a row, connect all the dots, push all the buttons, stay inside the lines, and think outside the box, as well as get all the proper approvals from all the alphabet soup government agencies, before they even consider disrupting one drop of water in that swamp.
