Political handicappers at The Cook Political Report have changed their assessment of North Carolinas Seventh Congressional District from Solid Democrat to Likely Democrat.
Thats a positive sign for the Ilario Pantano camp, who faces incumbent Democrat Rep. Mike McIntyre in the November election.
Heres a comment from National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Jon Thompson, who sent out an email about the switch:
Its no surprise political analysts are starting to take notice of Ilario Pantanos strong challenge to Mike McIntyre. After all, he already has, as evidenced by his unusually early TV ads. After recently being outraised by Ilario by an almost 2-1 margin, its clear that McIntyres support for Nancy Pelosi and inability to create jobs has finally caught up to him. The people of southeastern North Carolina are ready for someone who will fight for them, and Ilario Pantano has proven throughout his life that hes that person.
Pantano raised more money in the most recent reporting period than McIntyre, but the incumbent still has much more money to spend.
good for him; it’s his seat we need.
“If his campaign continues to pick up steam, just wait for the leftists to attack Ilario based on his past - actually, theyve been doing it already, but just wait for it to go national. Theyre just dying to expose their own hatred for our military.”
Pantano already put it on the table- he can take the smears in stride. He ain’t hiding anything, no reason to.
Nancy hasn’t been able to get 1/3 the agenda through that she has wanted. It could have been worse.
He is well-known, well-liked, and well marketed. As I said, if he loses, I’ll be very surprised.
So be it. 90% of Pelosi is not my idea of representation. The thing is you will have to deal with it and the next time you make a post complaining about some other bill that was passed that trampled on your rights, deaf ears will prevail. I am blessed to live in a district that I won’t have to be yelling at my representative, 98% of the time.
He is, unfortunately, a captive of the Democrat machine both here and in Washington. He will vote mostly conservatively on most issues to please his constituents, but on those big, critical national issues which revolve around and determine which party will control and set the national agenda he will always fall in line and follow whatever orders Pelosi requires of him.
How many many people do not understand this. Not only in this case but in all cases. That is exactly what the Party "whip" is for - to count the votes and ascertain who can be "permitted" to show an accommodating image to the constituency while insuring overall the Party agenda.
Objectively it is not simply the voting record as a reflection of one's principles, but the voting record in the context of close contests. The times when one's principles come up directly against Party support, that which keeps one in their privileged political position. Stupak and Nelson the obvious examples.
Because of pusillanimous character (and we all fall victim in pressing circumstances) it is the Party which determines our national fate. Just as in Nazi Party, Communist Party, etc.
This is why we support the Tea Party, which ideally is beyond the existing Demo and Repub parties, and why additional political parties are needed. Initially at least, member politicians of those outlaw minor parties would be outspoken and truthful. And it only takes a few in the national debate to expose the whole corrupted process of Party Politics.
I guess I should have paid attention to the fact that all my responses were to you...I could’ve done it all in one post.
I am only trying to convey the feelings for MM in this area. He’s very popular.
Btw, thanks for the polite discussion. Open hostility toward allies is one of the reasons I haven’t been as frequent a visitor to FR lately.
10-4, good on ya.
