Can Republicans and so-called Blue Dog Democrats benefit from following the Australian elections? I know Obama is paying attention. Why? Because it looks like a debate over immigration. Whats more, former-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was recently rolled by the now-Prime Minister Julia Gillard, in part, because he wouldnt get tough on border security.
When the leftwing Labor Party won power with the help of Australias pro-Labor media they didnt count on this, however. They didnt see (or didnt want to see) how their soft-on-people-smuggling border policies would undermine their popularity. Whats more, Australias pro-Labor media didnt see (or didnt care to) that the issue was exploding in the outer suburbs and townships, across Australia. Just like the UK. And now the Labor Party is saying, Were tough!

Okay, let’s get real here, the US, Australia, Canada and Europe are probably the places in the world where one would have the best quality of life...the rest of the world (more or less) is pretty much crap.

They have to get tough on immigration, otherwise they might capsize like Guam almost did.

He’s only saying the Labour and Liberal parties are having a “debate” on the issue. Not that anything has officially changed. Those boats are cute looking. I wonder if any of them are for sale?
What does Midnight Oil guy, the environment minister, have to say about this?

the Aussies have a points system to get into the country and that way they get only people who will bring what the country needs instead of many are deadbeats, wasters and scroungers like here. They have never messed around with immigration like we do plus they are not as PC as Europe and we are when it comes to subjects like this. I remember a couple of years back when some Iraqi(think it was) was sent to an island and not allowed into the mainland until immigration was cleared. It's like a holding site on this island, anyway this guy had some whack job idea of sewing his mouth closed to say to the govt there let me in. Boy that went bad, he was told he was mentally right and sent back to his country and never returned LOL. Just imagine if our Govt or most of the population past and present had that kind of balls. Good for the Aussies, number 1 destination for Brits , white south Africans as well as NZ. I wouldn't mind going either but the misses will not leave here Adelaide (sp) for me please

We’ve always been fairly right of centre when it comes to immigration. It’s only the politicians and media that tend to be left and those that give a flying rats a#se what the UN thinks.

I would like to get there before they slam the door. Youth and education are what they're looking for.If you're a 30 year old English speaking physician (or nurse) you're in.A 55 year old car mechanic might have a problem.

I added a disclaimer (more or less), lol.
I had a friend who’s family lost everything under Noriega and her boyfriend was murdered. She fled to the US at the time. I’m sure it’s better now.

When an island continent has illegal immigrant problems, that’s pretty bad.
