FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida -- With the slide of a drawer beneath a bullet-proof glass window at a police evidence warehouse, Robert Weinstein's Second Amendment right to possess firearms was vindicated on Wednesday.
"Thanks for keeping 'em safe for me," the 85-year-old Pompano Beach retiree told Yoli Brennan, evidence supervisor for the Broward Sheriff's Office.
She smiled at Weinstein as he placed his silver Colt semi-automatic .25-caliber pistol and heavy Wesson .357-caliber revolver in a brown paper bag.
Earlier Wednesday morning at the Broward County courthouse, Circuit Judge Dale Ross ruled in favor of Weinstein's petition by the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida.

The “what” got the “what” back for “who?” I don’t believe it.
There truly is a first for everything.
When they take a case to fight on behalf of the “free exercise” first amendment rights of a Christian I’ll REALLY be impressed (and shocked).
Pigs flew. Of course, later an ACLU lawyer beat the old man with a tire iron for owning guns in the first place. But its a start.
Has hell frozen over? The ACLU supporting gun rights.
Holy cow! I wouldn’t have expected this.
BTW, with the “recent activity” function of FR broken for the moment, I would suggest that it is important to make extra high use of ping lists.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
“An ACLU spokesman said he believes this is the first time in the organization’s 90-year history it has helped a gun owner retrieve his weapons from law enforcement. “

ACLU lawsuit gets widower his guns back (FL)

Although I can’t recall the details, I believe the ACLU intervened in
favor of ex-President Nixon (something like getting access/possession
to some of his papers).
But then when Nixon passed away, an ACLU office had a note on their
front door saying they’d be closed in observance of his passing.
IIRC, they said they’d be closed for one minute at noon.
ACLU are a bad bunch but like a broken clock, they are occassionly
screw up and do the right thing. I suspect that’s when the main staff
are on holiday and the interns run the show.
Question is, why is it the first time in 90 years? Either they believe in a person’s Constitutional rights or they don’t.
The ACLU on the right side for a change.
Weird.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.
They're rather selective – They believe in some Constitutional rights for some people.
You expect me to answer that???
Anyway, the jaded me believes that they probably hope the old guy will either off himself or go postal, thus establishing a need to restrain 2A rights...
