Questions Over BP Lobbying for Lockerbie Bomber's Release Overshadows Obama, Cameron Meeting
ABC News ^ | July 20, 2010 | Karen Travers

The agenda for today's White House meetings between President Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron included the war in Afghanistan, the Middle East peace process and cooperation on the global economy.

But overshadowing those pressing policy issues were questions over the role that oil company BP had in pushing for the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al Megrahi last year in order to help secure a lucrative oil exploration deal with Libya.

...Cameron insisted repeatedly today that the decision to release Megrahi was solely that of the Scottish government and he has not seen anything to indicate that they were swayed by any lobbying efforts by BP. He also said he did not think there was a need for a U.-K. based inquiry into the matter.

"I don't need an inquiry to tell me what was a bad decision," he said. "It was a bad decision."

Schumer was stuck with the task of going after Bp about this...and I'm guessing Hillary is behind this someplace especially because it's gonna make Obama look foolish.

Is Obama about to shelve Hillary?

Unbelievable that a foreign leader should have to answer to our senators... and he’s cooperating!!!

My thoughts are this is political theatre and a prelude to the most desired item on the Hussein agenda, prosecuting Bush and Cheney for invasion of Iraq.

Exactly! And with the help of ABC. The headline SCREAMS that BP was behind the release, but if there's any evidence of this in the actual article, I missed it.

Per your tagline, my FRiend: The MSM having this slanderous droolfest as the handmaiden of the Hussein agenda.

Connecting the dots, I note the attacked entity BP is one of the most prosperous companies in the U.K., and vital to the economy of the U.K. The same thing is being done to Toyota/Japan. These are two top allies of the U.S. in the free world, but under this administration they, via their economies, are top targets.

Further evidence, if more is needed, that this administration clearly is the enemy of THIS nation and of the free world.

It’s not too clear from the article who was asking the questions. The Washington Press corps? I doubt whether Obama himself would stir that one up.

There was a good deal of discussion at the time it happened that it was not just the Scots who released him, but that probably Gordon Brown pressured them behind the scenes to do so, because Libya was refusing to negotiate an oil deal until he was released.

So, I would blame Libya and Brown first and foremost, and only then BP, which was presumably involved in the deal.

“prosecuting Bush and Cheney for invasion of Iraq.”

Maybe that’s why Bush wasn’t bothering with closing the Border. He might need to escape through it to Mexico!

Bush got it wrong. The real “axis of evil” is BP, Toyota and Wall Street.

Say what you like. over 250 men women and children were murdered by a man now whooping it up at his home in Libya.
It took a decade to bring him to justice only to have him released by the brits. Where is justice in that bulls#t?

I watched a little bit of the fox news on their joint news conference and found it very disrespectful of Bo every time he refereed to the PM calling him Dave. And the PM every time he spoke of BO saying the President. It just goes to show you, who had the better up bringing. I was waiting to for the PM to say yo Bo and I but he keep calling him the President.

God bless you for watching that. Calling the PM “Dave”...unbelievable. I so loathe the being occupying our presidency and am beginning to fear his delusional abuse of power.

Of course, you are right!!
However, do you blame BP for that injustice based on rumors circulated in the state-run media??
The point of the post is not whether justice was done, but where blame is alleged.
