Democrats this week have jumped into a 6-percentage-point generic-ballot edge for Novembers election, according to a new Gallup poll.
Forty-nine percent of the 1,535 adults surveyed nationwide said they would prefer to vote for a Democrat to represent their congressional district. Forty-three percent are more likely to vote for a Republican.
Just more than a month ago, Republicans held a 6-point edge on Democrats in the poll.
Though the two parties have gone back in forth in Gallups generic ballot since the spring, Republicans have held a lead for most of the last three months.
The 6-point edge Democrats currently enjoy is the largest they have seen in months.
Democrats have yet to catch Republicans among independent voters, however, but are closing the gap.
Republicans hold a 4 percentage point edge among independents in this week's poll, 43-39 percent. Just a week before, Republicans led by 14 percentage points. In mid-June, Republicans led 52 percent to 31 percent among independents.
In her analysis, Gallups Lydia Saad speculated that the generic ballot bump for Democrats this past week could be due to the passage of financial reform.
The financial reform bill is the second-biggest piece of legislation to get through Congress this year, after healthcare reform, and it enjoyed majority support, Saad wrote. According to a USA Today/Gallup poll in June, 55% of Americans were in favor of legislation expanding government regulation of financial institutions including 72% of Democrats and 56% of independents. Only Republicans were generally opposed.
This was Democrats popular Ace card (I pointed that out back last year). They have no more popular issues like this before the election. Republicans need to kill the energy bill he is pushing because they can add taxes to it after it is passed like they did with Obama-care. This bump will fade hopefully.
There are so many things Republicans could use against democrats. But they are so lame, look at the losers they put on the Sunday shows. When asked how to pay for extension of tax cuts, they couldnt come up with any spending cuts, NONE. Not even cutting Obama-care spending. They look like the same old tax cut and spend Republicans.
What about Boehner comment about the financial crisis being an ant? There have been a number of statements like this from Republicans that democrats have been playing up. I see Democrats are taking Sharon Angle's statement on the unemployed and claiming that is the national Republican position. Yet, no coherent response by Republicans to counter this.
Gallup had Carter leading Reagan in 1980, so I’ve never had any confidence in them ever since.
With the Dept. of Justice firmly in the grasp of the Chi-town thugs, the RATS have a great chance of pulling this off. Voter intimidation and fraud practiced by the Black Panther and ACORN go unpunished......what can we expect in Nov.....another third world election.
Just look around, read the news, etc. Here is a perfect example.
I live in Yonkers, NY, a city directly north of NYC. We are broke beyond belief and the unions refuse to give back anything. These guys are so grossly ovverpaid you have no idea. Its beyond insane.
The garbage men went on strike and had a slowdown so the garbage piled up all in the city. Now we pay huge taxes as it is here.
Anyway, at my self defense class, a a few other city workers there and I was bitching about my trash piled up and they all jumped on me saying its union, blah blah. I told them they should be fired, put the welfare bums to work doing this in return for their check, or at least have people on UE do it. They were ready to lynch me.
So where are we? The union dirtbags are looting the city with outrageous salaries and benes to do menial labor, the welfare bums are collecting checks and Section 8 to do nothing, those on UE get their checks and are not doing anything, the garbage is piling up, and the schmucks like m,yself have to pay for all of this.
This goes on nationwide. We are done and the sooner people make preparations both financially and mentally to deal with it the better.
We are a lazy, greedy, expecting, and dying nation.
Didn’t I just read the Republicans were in the lead?
Wow, the distractions these two parties conspire with all for their own benefit.
Get rid of both of them.
The GOP is beyond contemptable at this moment.
After the electoral disasters these idiots provided in 2006 and 2008, you would figure they would have learned by now.
No! Instead we have Boehner, McConnell, McCain, Barton, all making fools of themselves by the second.

It’s the fighting over unemployment benefits that are killing us.
Why do people on the net always seem to question bad news polls but almost always act like good news ones are rock solid. Wishful thinking I guess.
The trend is sucking now, and I’m trying to warn people that it’s the UI benefits stuff but some aren’t listening.
Wow—first time I’ve noticed this in any poll’s methodology: interviews conducted in Spanish for those who speak primarily Spanish. I’d think that’d add a few points to the Dems over even any other polls of ‘adults nationwide’: http://www.gallup.com/poll/141440/Democrats-Jump-Six-Point-Lead-Generic-Ballot.aspx.
"Adults". I do not buy this crap for a minute. Not one. Consumer confidence had its third largest drop in history this month, right?
People are not pleased with Obama.
Of course, the Republicans aren't doing much to help themselves, and they cannot just sit around being "anti-Obama", they have to articulate conservative ideas....nevertheless, this poll is crap.
yet despite all that a 30 second out-of-focus video clip from Andrew Breitbart can rock them all back on their heels
I love Palin, and her facebook and twitter broadsides have been extremely effective and welcome. But I wish she would go on some of these Sunday morning shows and make the forceful conservative arguments that the RINO’s just won’t make. Politics isn’t beanbags. If the GOP doesn’t have the stones to take a punch and punch back, then November will be a disappointment.
Haven’t you heard? Obama plugged the hole!
The GOP has ZERO credibility on deficits. Since 2006 they have presented absolutely nothing for the average voter to hang on to other than anti-dem.
The UE extension is bad politics for them, as it is for obama, however, the GOP looks really idiotic in this IMHO.
I don’t know a person who does not revulse at the site of mcconnell and Boehner.
Post of the century, possibly the millennium.
“Exactly. I have been called a debbie downer many times,”
Since I not longer have to reside in the USSA, I have been called many names by other FReepers.
They are quite jealous that I was able to escape.
As I point out, I can do nothing other then vote absentee,
No doubt, the Republicans, for whatever THEY are worth, will make great gains in November, but what good is it, if half or more are RINOS, out for their own capital gains.
What can REAL Americans do, now that public education is nothing more then PUBIC education and Marxist indoctrination camps?
The TEA Parties were, and are a great idea, but now infiltrated with leftist moles and marginalized by the Communist media. They will be under the evil microscope
until drummed out of existence or splintered into irrelevance.
Obambie is still loved by over 40% of the brain dead public.
Whatcha gonna do?
Compared to Pelosi and Reid they look like Washington and Jefferson
They actually were doing pretty well with presenting things starting about 6 months and that’s why they got way ahead. They just threw all that away with this UI benefits nonsense. Great job guys.
