NAACP Statement on the Resignation of Shirley Sherrod (Thanks Andrew Breitbart, kinda)
NAACP ^ | Monday, July 19, 2010 | Press Release

Posted on 07/19/2010 10:04:09 PM PDT by kristinn

(BALTIMORE, MD) NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous issued the following statement today after learning of the resignation of Shirley Sherrod of the United States Department of Agriculture:

“Since our founding in 1909, the NAACP has been a multi-racial, multi-faith organization that-- while generally rooted in African American communities-- fights to end racial discrimination against all Americans.

We concur with US Agriculture Secretary Vilsack in accepting the resignation of Shirley Sherrod for her remarks at a local NAACP Freedom Fund banquet.

Racism is about the abuse of power. Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer in need of assistance because of his race.

We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color and female farmers.

Her actions were shameful. While she went on to explain in the story that she ultimately realized her mistake, as well as the common predicament of working people of all races, she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man.

The reaction from many in the audience is disturbing. We will be looking into the behavior of NAACP representatives at this local event and take any appropriate action.

We thank those who brought this to our national office's attention, as there are hundreds of local fundraising dinners each year.

Sherrod's behavior is even more intolerable in light of the US Department of Agriculture's well documented history of denying opportunities to African American, Latino, Asian American, and Native American farmers, as well as female farmers of all races. Currently, justice for many of these farmers is being held up by Congress. We would hope all who share our outrage at Sherrod's statements would join us in pushing for these cases to be remedied.

The NAACP will continue to advance the ideals of America and fight for freedom, justice and fairness for all Americans.”

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sectors.

"We thank those who brought this to our national office's attention, as there are hundreds of local fund raising dinners each year."

He gets out of acknowledging her stupid comments by stating that there are hundreds of local fund raisers each year. My suggestion to Jealous is this: Demand a copy of the tapes of each dinner to be audited by BREITBART first. If more instances are found, and are each in turn condemned, then I will be more receptive to apologies by Jealous.

And what about some of the speakers/”honored” guests they’ve had over the years, aside from this bitch?

Has Calypso Louie addressed them? “Rev.” Wright? What’s the NAACP’s position on racial quotas (i.e. profiling against whites and Asians)?

I bet we could put together a pretty long list of their transgressions.

Trust me. You don't want to make a gay whale mad. Then again, you don't want to make it particularly happy either.

"Is that a harpoon in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

...especially if it's a sperm whale.

Cheers!

... her remarks at a local NAACP Freedom Fund banquet.

One wonders why a banquet room full of people so keenly attuned to racism as naacp members did not itself bring this matter to the attention of Ms Sherrod's employers.

One only wonders briefly, though.

To: somebody; Anybody; nobody; Everybody
Are you already a monthly donor to Free Republic? Do you think you've already done enough? Well, I used to feel the same way until I realized the FReep-a-thons were taking longer and longer.

If each monthly contributor kicked in an additional, one-time donation of $20.00, this FReep-a-thon could be over!

EVERYBODY, SOMEBODY, ANYBODY, NOBODY

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about this, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Or are you waiting for Somebody Else to do what Everybody should?

farmers of color

Is he talking about indigo, orange and collard greens farmers?

Now I'm holding my breath to see if the NAACP takes on the entire Department of Justice and Attorney General Holder for their failure to criminally prosecute racially based voter intimidation.

The NAACP was forced to do the right thing for once. They did not apologize so willingly. This is significant because as Breitbart said, he has samples (plural) of NAACP racism, and they know it. They learned from the Acorn example, and if Breitbart is saving the best for last, this could get interesting. It is tough for the media to ignore this whole thing now that this racist USDA employee has been fired AND the NAACP has issued an apology. I would bet there is more coming.

There are also hundreds of tea parties, he probably doesn’t care to take that into an account.

The NAACP won't even release the text of THEIR OWN RESOLUTION, condemning the Tea Party for alleged racism.

Worst. Open and honest dialogue about race. Ever.

If Breitbart has more, I hope he continues release them.

There was no objection on the part of the NAACP then, they did not discreetly or publicly strip her of the award following her performance then. They have not said they will take back the award now. I am glad that the NAACP acted swiftly when outed but why must they be outed before they decry the comments as inappropriate?

So, according to their own standards this is a ‘win’ for Breitbart? After all the Tea Party Express/Federation thing was a ‘win’ for the NAACP, or so they say.

Correct! One incident from one Tea Party participant makes all Tea Party members racist. There have already been numerous statements by black “leaders” which have been far more incendiary that the satire by Mark Williams. Our country will mature when there is uniform outrage across all racial lines whenever black “leaders” go racist in their language.

OK! Where do I send the cleaning bill for this keyboard, monitor and and carpeting! Thank God I am working at home these days. If I had been in an office I would have sprayed coffee on half the staff.

This was a huge kick in the nuts to the NAACP. Jealous is in a quandary. He can have an investigation and genuinely condemn other attacks on whites, or he can clam up. I am betting he will clam up. Better that way. Any further attacks on the Tea Party become impotent.

"We are appalled by her actions"

Meanwhile, they cheered her "hate whitey" speech and then presented her with an award immediately afterward.
