ISLAMABAD — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton sought Monday to convince skeptical Pakistanis that American interest in their country extends beyond the fight against Islamist militants by announcing a raft of new aid projects worth $500 million.
The projects, which included new dams for badly needed electricity and hospitals, are part of a $7.5 billion aid effort to win over Pakistanis suspicious about Washington's goals here and in neighboring Afghanistan, where U.S. troops are being killed in ever greater numbers in an insurgency with links to Pakistan.

This pisses me off. Why give away money when our country needs it. I would stop all aid to all countries until we get rid of every penny of debt. This is really stupid!!! 500 million could be a day of interest payments for the United States.
$500 mil? That’s also the advertising budget for obamacare. To inform all the sheeple how great it is, and just in time for the next election.
I doubt she just up and gave it away...I am sure she had to talk with Obama for it or even more believable he demanded that she do this. If I were her I would have said no. Well at the very least I would have said, “This is from the President. I had nothing to do with it”.
They should have congressional authority because it is congress that tasked with spending. But this white house is increasingly marginalizing congress and there is not a peep even from those that are being iced out.
What really dosen’t make sense is that CAREER congress types are allowing themselves to be made irrevelant by a temporary office holder. What gives here?

Obama signs major Pakistan aid bill
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into law a $7.5 billion aid package for Pakistan that the U.S.-ally’s military criticized as American meddling in its internal affairs.
The measure provides $1.5 billion annually over five years for economic and social programs and comes as Pakistan faces a string of violent militant attacks and bombings as its military orchestrates an offensive into the Taliban heartland.
