Oh boy, here we go again. Mitt Romney has his eyes on a major political office -- if only that damned woman would get out of the way!
Romney, of course, is running for president in 2012, and has been from the moment he used a comically red meat-laden CPAC speech to depart from the 2008 GOP race. And his prospects, at least for the Republican nomination, aren't bad: He's the next-in-line guy, he'll have plenty of cash, and there just aren't that many other options.
But then there's Sarah Palin. She may ultimately decide not to run, but this past week brought fresh evidence -- in the form of her suddenly ramped-up and professionalized national political organization -- that she's serious about it.
It was certainly enough to catch Team Romney's attention. On Thursday, a Romney advisor -- unnamed, of course -- told Time's Mark Halperin that Palin is "not a serious human being,"
With the Iowa caucuses now 18 months away, the episode offered a preview of coming attractions. If Palin does run, she will be one of Romney's biggest threats -- maybe his biggest. Romney, in other words, may end up being the first GOP presidential front-runner in history whose chief rival is a woman. Which is very bad news for Mitt, because it's a role in which he'd be horribly miscast.
Three times in his relatively limited political career Romney has found a woman standing between him and his political goal. In each case, he ended up getting what he wanted -- but it was always awkward, ugly and downright nasty, with cries of chauvinism and sexism along the way. The man just does not know how to look good while competing with a woman

The year is 2010, and very important Congressional and gubernatorial elections are on the horizon.
November 2010, not November 2012. ..get it Mitt?
And I truly believe that when the time comes Sarah will clean your clock!
BTW Romney is a lousy campaigner anyway, couldn’t even beat McCain or Huckleberry Finn with all of his money!!
Agreed, I despise Romney, but I’m not gonna roll in a Salon dogpile about him.
Romney is Obama’s non-Muslim, non-Black Power twin. Very statist, totally enamored of a controlled economy, etc. Mormons may like this, but I don’t think the rest of us will.
“We really, really need to listen to Salon and Crissy about who to run for POTUS. /S “
Why not, Mccain listened to Soros and Mrs Kerry.
I don’t like either of them. She’s unelectable, and he’s a RINO of the highest order.
If you like Scott Brown, you will love Mitt Romney ... They are best bud progressives.
BTW, the Republicans party has had a progressive problem since the 1910s or so, when progressives became the rage. Just think Democrat progressive ‘lite’, or what Scott Brown is all about.
HA!.....Mitt is a RINO indeed and you have no proof that she is unelectable...and pointing to early polls are historical meaningless...prove to me where a early poll 18 months before a primary or 7 months before anybody actually announces to run means anything?
Salon actually put together a pretty accurate picture there.
Romney will probably have his minions continue their fire at Palin, but once further removed, with more plausible deniability and anonymity since the last attack backfired. Still, Romney’s been rewarded, as the writer notes, many times for attacking women fairly directly with female stereotypes and male presumption. If his team hadn’t so successfully undermined Palin in the latter days of the McCain campaign, she’d probably have about sewn up the nomination by now—so he’s still benefitting from yes, sexist hardball attacks against a female opponent.
Palin plays the gender card a bit herself, and so they are likely to come up against each other directly at some point as well, whether in a primary debate or otherwise through the process.

What a tool.
Thank you! There are a lot of people around here these days who seem to believe that Progressives only reside on the left side of the aisle. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
I’m sorry I ever voted for Romney too.
Too? Don't include me in your voting for Romney. I never voted for Romney, ever. Never even casually considered it. Romney is as transparent a politician as has ever been on the national stage in my 47 years. I see right through his perfect hair and his fake facade of telling people exactly what they want to hear, just like I saw through Scott Brown's pickup truck BS. Don't listen to what they say. Watch what they do, especially their body language. You can't hide body language. It tells all.
Ouch - that hurts because it resonates. This is the tag that will bury Romney. Another Scott Brown.
Mitt better watch it because Sarah is no ordinary female politician. Mitt’s crew got just a small taste of Sarah’s night stick and I’m sure it doesn’t taste to good. The other thing is if Mitt’s crew keeps this up they will alienate two potential Govs. Haley and Martinez. Gov Swift will no don’t come to Sarah’s aid as well because she has in the past and I’m sure Swift wouldn’t mind smacking around Mitt’s crew a little either.
