There's been lots of talk lately about body scanners the new airport security tool that allows screeners to see through clothes. People are concerned about privacy, delayed flights, health effects.
Now there's another concern. What about kids? Do they have to go through this, too? And what are parents' rights?
A Baltimore family is raising the issue after their 12-year-old daughter was pulled out of line in Tampa and subjected to what they say was an embarrassing and unhealthy scan. The girl was traveling with an adult friend of the family, not her parents.
"Our daughter was scared and didn't understand what was happening," said Michelle Nemphos, the mother of the girl. She declined to give her daughter's name. "In essence they conducted a strip search on a 12-year-old girl without her parents present to advocate for her."
The girl told her story in a phone interview:

Flying Pasties are meant to provide airplane travelers adequate protection from intrusive full body scanners while not interfering with airline security. (www.flyingpasties.com)
"The Design" Flying Pasties are designed to obscure the most private parts of the human body when entering full body airport scanners. The unique ease of removability will allow travelers the ability to retain their self dignity while respecting the importance of airport security. Citizens all around the world are living in troubled times but the company feels that no one should have to feel embarrassed or indentured for simply choosing to fly on an airplane.
Or...... we can build high-speed rail and Maglev and avoid these intrusive examinations altogether.
Perfect job for a pervert.
a Barbarian can strap a bomb to his kid and blow up high speed trains, too.
Take the train or greyhound.
Sure, because terrorists would never think of blowing up a train.
Why? Are Muslims already banned from train travel?
I don’t understand why people are paranoid. It’s not like these scans are ever going to end up on Youtube./s
I still wonder why we have not had a homicide bomber in a mall or amusement park yet
Yup. When Child Porn laws conflict with Homeland Security laws, I wonder which one wins.
Sadly, I fear that the metal detectors and x-rays will be expanded to include rail travel. Already in LA area, Metrolink and the Sheriffs have declared a policy by which they consider themselves free to search any bag at any time. But, I’m always glad to see them bring the dogs through the trains. That by itself makes me feel less vulnerable to a Madrid style attack — plus the doggies are cute.
Because we've been lucky...
Or a major university where muslims could easily blend in.
You are not required to go through the millimeter wave scanners, simply request a secondary screening. The secondary screening consists of a hand wanding, followed by a body pat down. I get one every time that I fly because of a knee implant. I’ll take the scanner, thank you.
I am sure in the future they will want to do full scans/searches on anyone that takes any form of “public” transportation. Whether bus, train, or maybe even taxi.
Forgot about that one
Every time I fly through Narita, Buenos Aires, and Nassau I get a pat down or the special wad treatment. I am early middle age white guy.
same with Penn Station NY and Union Station DC. When you exit Penn station there are two guys armed with Squad Automatic Weapons.
Nice to see you perpetuating the bald faced LIES about scanners. The do NOT reveal all, that is just plain a lie and any reporter that says it is lying.
And of course if you precious trains ever got ridden they’d be just as big a terrorist target, so saying maglevs would avoid this is another lie.
“Flying Pasties”
Sounds like a high wire act with a poor safety record. Sploot!
What about when it's my wife? What about when it's me. I don't show my little dingy off to just anyone.
The Drug war doesn't stop drugs. The TSA doesn't protect us from terrorists. The Federal Bureau of Education doesn't teach our children. The Federal anything and everything doesn't do its job.
What the airports need are some really good profilers and a less minority based work force. Discrimination used to be looked at as a positive human tool.
I think they've dumb downed the whole planet.
