Although the prospect of Meryl Streep playing Margaret Thatcher may have pleased some admirers of the Conservative former prime minister, her children have been horrified to discover more about the film. Mandrake hears that the screenplay of The Iron Lady depicts Baroness Thatcher as an elderly dementia-sufferer looking back on her career with sadness. She is shown talking to herself and unaware that her husband, Sir Denis Thatcher, has died. Fiennes family home for saleSir Mark and Carol are appalled at what they have learnt about the film, says a friend of the family. They think it sounds like some Left-wing fantasy. They feel strongly about it, but will not speak publicly for fear of giving it more publicity." Cameron McCracken, the managing director of the film-maker Pathé, confirms: "It is true that the film is set in the recent past and that Baroness Thatcher does look back on both the triumphs and the lows of her extraordinary career. "It is a film about power and the price that is paid for power. In that sense, it is the story of every person who has ever had to balance their private life with their public career." He says Lady Thatcher's health will be featured, but insists that it will be treated with appropriate sensitivity. He adds of the film: Although fictional, it will be fair and accurate.

Apocalypto? I dd not see that. Actually most people didn’t. They said it was no where near as good as the passion.
“Is she deceased? You seem to be saying so.”
No she is alive.

I would dearly love to watch a movie about Baroness Thatcher. I will NOT be watching this garbage.
I think she will do alright. She only reads what is given to her. Should we be pissed at the writers? Yes!!!! Meryl was hilarious in her latest film. She did alright as Julia and nobody got mad at her for doing it.
Well, those people were wrong, I think. The Passion was an overwrought religious tract that did an above average job of preaching to the choir — and of course the whole choir bought tickets. Apocalypto was more sophisticated in the way it went about its business.
It seems like she is going to die soon according to the article if they are worried about having enough troops to line the streets. That is something that would not be a worry if she had a year or two. Unfortunately her timing is horrible with England worrying about finances. This new government is cutting out everything they can to say the government. Hopefully people will understand that spending this money on her will be worth it for history.....I think that they need to begin the process of getting people on board with this now before the day it happens. There would be nothing worse than having people objecting to this funeral...it would be tacky if they don’t take care of it now.
Interesting....I can’t argue one way or the other. I watched passion and am done with Mel at least for the moment. He hasn’t done a good movie in a decade or more. The Patriot was brilliant IMHO!!!! I used to like Mel and Tom Cruise but both are very eccentric and can’t bring myself to watch any of their movies anymore. Tom’s latest movie is supposedly very good but I refuse to watch it or any other film he is in. I still have visions of him jumping on Oprah’s couch like a wacko...he is done in my household!!!
Yeah. The Mel Gibson Story. Writen by Executive Producer, Directed and Starring Mel Gibson. Musical Consultant: Mel Gibson. Costumes by: Mel Gibson. Director of Cinematograpy and Steadycam Operator: Mel Gibson. Catering by: Mel Gibson. Etc, etc....
When I first heard Streep was playing the Baroness Thatcher, my immediate response was, “oh THIS is a Hollywood hit piece!” And it IS. No surprise here. I won’t waste my $$ Seeing the “Iron Lady” denigrated by worthless Leftists with hateful agendas...
That would have wiped out 10's of thousands of jobs.
She can be entertaining, but she's a witch in real life.
YOU SAID IT.
She's trying to remove Thatcher's status as a geo-political force for freedom and replace it with some sentimentalist, weak drivel in order to influence the younger generation's picture of Thatcher.
Streep is not a nice person. Even "Julie & Julia" had some swipes against Republicans which I'm sure she had written into the script.
“It seems like she is going to die soon according to the article if they are worried about having enough troops to line the streets.”
The article is a year old. It’s just contingency planning.
I am a competent filmmaker with a trunk full of great scripts that present the supreme value of Western Civilization (you know, that horrible philosophy under attack from all sides). And it’s really hard to get any of ‘em off the ground.
I know, only suckers beef.
But it sure is frustrating...
Your observations about Apocalypto are right on the money. Too bad Mel has turned himself into a Hollywood suicide bomber...
Apocalypto is a masterpiece.
Depends on the topic. All sources have bias. It’s our job as historians to bag and tag them.
Exactly. Sadly for her I’m one of the ‘younger generation’ who knows better.
