I prefer to look at it from a spiritual warfare position. Think of it this way - Satan's version of the movie "Groundhog Day". Generation after generation, culture after culture, he keeps what works, throws out what didn't work, and tweeks what almost worked. That is why we can't really attach an "-ism" to what is going on today.
One of these days, he will bed down the girl.
I don’t know the numbers but I can tell you that it costs more money to eat healthy than it does to not. You can fill your tummy on popcorn pretty cheaply but yogurt, fruit, and lean meat are not cheap.
Participating even in school athletic activities - much less rec league athletics - is well beyond the means of a lot of families. A kid can jumprope or something but in the winter and hot summer there may not be a good place to do that without other risks.
I don’t want to make excuses. There are poor choices, but even people who want to make good choices sometimes aren’t able because of the money.
That’s why the way to really help the people who WANT to live a healthy lifestyle is to allow the economy to be healthy and robust. The people who are motivated to be independent and healthy will have what they need so they can do that. The people who aren’t motivated will grow fat and sick - but that’s what they will do even if you try to force them to be healthy.
Right now I can tell people this: the quickest way to help me and my children live a healthy lifestyle is if we would get rid of these communist SOB’s so I could go back to living my life and not having to do the job that nobody in government, media, and law enforcement are being paid big bucks to do. If I wasn’t sitting in front of this computer in the hopes that I can impact this coup going on in full sight of all of us, I could be out playing with my kids, making sure they’re not sitting in front of a computer, etc.
These crooks are going about this all the wrong way. It doesn’t even serve the purpose they SAY they want to achieve. The real purpose, of course, is something else: complete tyranny. Yuri Bezmenov said that once the crisis that sparks the full takeover of power comes along, the benevolent pretenses will all be abandoned and the raw power grab will be seen for what it is - when it’s too late.

Nor does it matter that study after study is showing that weight and disease do not correlate except for those who are underweight!
The group of folks who live the longest are those in the supposedly overweight category - BMI of 25 to 29. Even people in the obese category live longer than those who are underweight, and this is after taking into account illness that might cause people to be underweight.
What exactly does overweight mean anyway? Over what weight? Why, over the weight the government says you should be, of course! These numbers have been changed in the past few years so that suddenly, overnight, millions more people became “overweight”.
I understand that fat people are despised in today’s world, but it amazes me how even intelligent people cannot seem to separate their prejudices from the facts. If the facts don’t please them, they ignore them. Neil Boortz comes to mind. His hatred of fat people is frightening. This intense contempt for fat folks even appears here on FR. Supposed concern for health care costs (another myth being that fat people use more health care services) gives people an excuse to spew vitriol at people they don’t like.
I honestly think we are not far off from having those deemed to be fat (or unacceptable in other ways?) rounded up and put in camps. It will be for their own good, don’t you know. If they die while in “treatment”, then it just means they were too far gone to benefit from the “help” they received. Considering that most people gain weight as they age, this would be a convenient excuse to off the old folks - too fat, too old, and not useful to the government.
To rephrase the Rodney King line, “Can’t we all just treat each other with respect and mind our own business?”

The lawlessness we’re facing today is a full-on spiritual battle. Most people can’t see it. The ones who see it have been handcuffed and gagged while everybody else ridicules. It’s an unsustainable situation. Our world is ripe for the picking, and I have no doubts that Satan will make the move quickly.

Yes it is. Back when I did weigh 110# at 5’2” my BMI was still higher than what the chart said it should be. I figured in order to be what the BMI said I should be I’d have to weigh about 85# and since people tended to tell me I looked too small at 110# I knew I’d look awful at that weiht.

Yeah, I need to cut back. I’ve gained almost a pound a year the last 5 years! My BMI is nearly 19.
Ok, I’ve decided the government is too fat. Start cutting back. Way back.
