Barack Obama had the family dog Bo flown to Maine in a separate government jet for the Obama family's vacation weekend, according to news reports.
Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog given as a present by the late U.S. Sen Ted Kennedy, D-Mass.; and the president's personal aide Reggie Love, who chatted with Baldacci.
BTW, Obama's aide Reggie Love gets paid $102,000 per year of taxpayers' money to handle Bo and hold Obama's ice cream cones, among other highly sought after well-paid jobs skills.
Democrats are the party for people rich with everybody else's money.

I’d have less trouble with it if the dog was a member of the family and so loved that they wouldn’t THINK of leaving him for 4 days.
Bo- unfortunately- is a prop; he’s needed as any other prop would be for a photo op.
I hope he gets some real affection from someone.
It’s just not right to leave Bo at home by himself.

Thing is that these retrieving dogs have been bred for generations to work closely with a human, and they don't do well shut away from "their" family.
I've met a couple of PWDs but I don't know them like I do Labs . . . still, any gundog wants to be part of the team, not shut away in the White House basement with a keeper.
Hopefully whoever is told off to look after Bo will develop a good relationship with him and give him something useful and worthwhile to do. All sporting dogs need a JOB as well as a family circle.
I’ve always thought it was a Muslim thing. Obama was seen ONCE with Bo when the media were hot about this story. But otherwise, Muslims don’t like to get too close to dogs.

As image conscious and stage-managed as these people are, I seriously think it's a contrivance to evoke some kind of quaint eccentricity like Reagan's jelly beans or Carter's peanuts.

My Ruby heels pretty well now, just sometimes she forgets herself a little.
Off leash heeling with a duck in the water, but if you look carefully you can see that her hind feet have levitated off the ground. She's out ahead, which I don't like, but since a mallard just made a great big splash about 75 yards in front of her, I'll take it.
