COOPER CITY, Fla. - A Cooper City family awoke to the sounds of three men posing as FBI agents on Wednesday.

The three men were caught on home surveillance video.

They were all wearing t-shirts with the words FBI on them and had fake badges around their necks.

A father, mother and three children were all inside, when the heard the men say "FBI, police! Open up!"

The mother called the real police and the father grabbed his gun.

The father fired a warning shot and the three men took off running.

The families front door was damaged by the intruders.

The suspects are still on the loose.

Not trying to blame the victims here, but something is wrong when you need a home surveillance video, and sure enough, fake FBI goons try to bust in.

There’s drugs in that house.

(flame away - I’ve been wrong before)

There have been a couple of home invasions in the DC by men deressed as a SWAT team, including vests and hats with FBI and all in black.

It is not something new. My guess is you are wrong.

Never thought I would be seeing something more inept than
the real FBI. Takes all kinds.

So... now in America we fire warning shots at people dressed as LEO/FBI at your front door, prior to knowing if they really are or aren't LEO/FBI?

Really?!

What if they indeed were LEO/FBI? Having identified themselves as such, I believe the homeowner would be legally screwed.

What would the proper course of action be? I want to know if this happens to me and my family.... this almost seems like a “lose - lose” situation for the home owner and their family.

I do not believe I am wrong in saying the FBI would NOT come to the door in t-shirts.

Stupid headline alert. There is a significant difference between “try and” and “try to”.

Let’s see. A dead husband, raped and maybe dead mother, 3 traumatized children (if alive) and you would be the one raising money for the perps’ defense.
The year is 2010, NOT 1970. If it was MY wife and children, the door may have been damaged by the FAKE FBI, but it would have been blown out by ME.

Certainly if more of these "fake" LEO/FBI incidents occur in the news, it might just lead to open gun fire at the front with any LEO/FBI, real or fake.

"Your Honor, my client has read over [ ] incidents in the news where individuals posing as LEO/FBI attempted to break into peoples' homes..."

A good defense? Castle Doctrine? Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6? We report, you decide.

***Let’s see. A dead husband, raped and maybe dead mother,***

And if they had been REAL FBI there would be a dead husband, mother and possibly traumatized or dead children.

Sometimes you just can’t win!

I've got video surveillance around my house, and I don't have drugs in the house. So does my sister and BIL at their farm. They don't have drugs either. Lots of regular honest people like to have security systems-- not just bad guys.

The police (and FBI) DO get the wrong house sometimes.

Fake FBI agents try and break into home

It's "try to", not "try and".

</grammar_police>

But what do I know? It's not like I have a journalism degree.
