The former CIA operative and member of the House of Representatives tells me it's looking more and more like he will revive his dormant campaign for Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate.
"I haven't made any final decisions,'' Simmons told me Wednesday afternoon. "I'm getting a lot of phone calls from people. Six weeks ago the convention was over and I was very disappointed. My staff was despondent. My family was stunned."
"I've been sitting on it now. People do come up to me say gosh I wish you were still in."
Simmons has $1 million in the bank. He says he's still getting calls to speak. He told me that 92 percent of the $3 million total he raised for his campaign came from individual donors.

So why did he drop out in the first place?
Ping
He could win it with a sudden last minute blitz with Ann Coulter joining him (and an endorsement from Palin)
need to be timed just right
I don’t know much about McMahon, other than her role as Vince’s wife and managing the WWE, but she is a genuine outsider and she has oodles of money to spend. That makes her a better chance to win the seat than Simmons, who has no chance in Blue Ct.Conservatives are 42% of the electorate, less in Ct.That means 58% are not conservatives. We will have to accept that fact and work to get Republicans elected even if they’re not illustrations in the dictionary for conservative.
Coulter’s arguement in favor of Simmons was not that he is more conservative. Her arguement was that Connecticut is full of snobs who will never vote for someone involved in professional wrestling.
She also funded Rahm Enamuel once in some way that I forgot the details
Simmons is a RINO of bad sorts, he is Joe Liberman with a genuine war record: STRONG on national defense, Moderate to liberal on economics, and LIBERAL to the left of Barney Frank on moral issues.
He also was asked once by an anti-terror friend to denounce radical Islam and Simmons remarked that he has over 5000 MUSLIM VOTERS whose VOTES he needs to be concerned about.
The ONLY conservative in this race was Vinny Forras, and all the local talk shows kept him off the air intentionally. One even said they kept him off their show because he went on IMUS first instead of their show...problem is, Dan Lavallo never invited Vinny on the air, so his complaint is hollow.
I’m not a snob for not wanting to vote for McMahon; rather, I’m an intelligent conservative who doesn’t want to vote for Linda McMahon.
She’s absolutely saturating the state with her face and her flyers. I’ve heard many people (most Dems) complain that they are getting swamped with her fancy glossy materials in their mailboxes. Why, in CT of all places, she’s mailing not one, not two, but at least 3 mailings so far to Dem households (unless they’re lying to me!) is beyond me.
NOt a reason to dislike her, but she’s wasting tons of money with that tactic. She’s a joke to the left and a huge questionmark to the right.
sadly, with the choices to make in this race, I will have to hold my nose and pull for Simmons. He is only 5% better than McMahon and 100% better than the IVAW hugger Schiff.
I grew up and spent my entire life in Greenwich and while I wish this were not the case I can tell you that the CC crowd would sooner pull the lever for Blumenthal as he is perceived as educated and sophisticated where Palin for example, in their eyes, is neither. Coulter they just disregard as a political muckraker and opportunist.
Correct on all points. I can think of maybe one social conservative in RINO Fairfield County: Glenn Beck.
How many are independents who could vote conservative? Lots, in CT.
