New federal regulations issued this week stipulate that the electronic health records--that all Americans are supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year--must record not only the traditional measures of height and weight, but also the Body Mass Index: a measure of obesity.
The obesity-rating regulation states that every American's electronic health record must: Calculate body mass index. Automatically calculate and display body mass index (BMI) based on a patients height and weight.
The law also requires that these electronic health records be available--with appropriate security measures--on a national exchange.

LOL!
The question is, do "the people" have the balls to do what is necessary to exercise that power? And yes, it is apparent that it IS necessary.
BTW, here’s my post from another thread concerning the government’s use of the Body Mass Index (BMI) as an indicator of obesity:
“”BMI is NOT a measure of obesity - it’s simply a height-weight ratio. A very athletic person will have a BMI that falls within the definition of “overweight” or “obese” but will have a very low body fat percentage.
Also, the definition of “obesity” has changed within the last 10 years or so, adjusted so that the “ideal” weight is less than it was previously. That change alone is a significant reason that so many are considered obese, who would previously be considered merely overweight. For example, the “normal” weight range for an adult male, 6 ft 1 inches tall (73”) was between 160 and 195 pounds (20.7 to 26.4 BMI) as noted in a chart in “Nutrition, Concepts and Controversies”, 1997. The same “normal” range was found to be 141 to 189 pounds (BMI of 19-25) in “Fitness and Health, Fifth Edition”, 2002.
Similar changes in the BMI range considered to be obese were noted, with the newer chart calling anybody with a BMI of 30 or over “obese” while the older chart called a male with a BMI of 31.1 and over “extremely overweight”. Presumably, the word “overweight” wasn’t abusive enough so they dummied down the definition of “obese” to include those folks.
I will note that the change in the definition of obese occurred during the Clinton administration. Given that the BMI doesn’t measure body fat or fitness, and given the fact that Clinton was a liberal, I’m certain that this change in definitions had NOTHING to do with health.
Fast-forward to today, and it’s easy to see that the government will use the BMI as a lever to start dictating diet to Americans.””
The TRUTH is that November 2, 2010 WILL BE SUCH a POLITICAL TSUNMMI that it will make November, 1994 look like a gentle rain.
Anybody that can't calculate BMI needs to go back to sixth grade. It's simply the weight (in kilograms) divided by the height (in meters) squared. Nothing more, nothing less. For example, if you're 6 foot tall (1.83) meters, you take the height and square it (1.83 X 1.83 = 3.35). Then take your weight in kilograms, say 70 (155 pounds), and divide it by the result of squaring your height (70 / 3.35 = 20.9). Congradulations, at 6 foot tall and 155 pounds, you are at a "normal" weight with a BMI of 20.9. A little scrawney, but that's the way BHO wants you.
BMI remains a pi$$-poor indicator of body fat content.
In Zimbabwe before the British arrived, the person chosen to be the King was granted every wish, no matter what it was, then in the following year, ritualistically put to death... That Zimbabwe?
First they came for the smoker.....
“We may end up seeing an underground economy BIGTIME.”
I’ve been saying this for some time. Also, we will be forced into underground medical care and facilities. I had this conversation just yesterday with one of my adult daughters. If you or a loved one needs a lifesaving test or treatment but is too far down the “list” and may die without it, what would you be willing to do? What extreme measures would you take? People used to talk about back-alley abortions. Well, we may reach a point of back-alley MRIs and back-alley whispers of “Hey, I know a doctor who will treat you. He lives . . .”
“Well, we may reach a point of back-alley MRIs and back-alley whispers of Hey, I know a doctor who will treat you. He lives . . .
yeah right. What do YOU think the “Patriot” Act was really intended for....?!!!
“As I said, if we do not have sucess this year and in 2012, then the results will be UGLY.”
Instead of us moving to San Francisco, they’re gonna move San Francisco to us, so you don’t have to leave your heart there. I may have to add beer in addition to ammo on my stock up list.
Yes, many people need ongoing treatment and monitoring for serious problems, particularly elderly who are living longer BECAUSE of these great advances. I myself needed brain surgery 20 years ago to correct an aneurysm. Nothing else would’ve saved me.
...but proving you are a citizen is profiling.
I am 6’0” and my wife is 5’2” - our “normal” BMI ranges actually overlap at 136.5 pounds. That is a weight she has never hit when not pregnant, and I have not been since maybe eighth grade. It would not be remotely healthy for either of us. BMI says rotund women are healthy, while slim men are overweight. At my height, for example, “overweight” begins at 185.
BMI, even if it were anybody’s business, is a meaningless number.
Of course. If you don’t comply and reduce your weight, you don’t get needed services like surgery. The government will eventually picking the costs since the Healthcare bill is a way to game everyone into a singlepayer system.
This is from 2008, but still relevant:
“Doctors are calling for NHS treatment to be withheld from patients who are too old or who lead unhealthy lives.
Have your say: Should lifestyle play a role in deciding who gets NHS treatment?
Smokers, heavy drinkers, the obese and the elderly should be barred from receiving some operations, according to doctors, with most saying the health service cannot afford to provide free care to everyone...”

This needs to be STOPPED
We need a totalitarian rating for every Obama appointee.
Doesn’t this make you feel better about “health care reform”. Now the liberal idiots are in control of anything dealing with your health.
Obese black people need not worry. The Justice Department will see to it the law doesn’t apply to them.
Notice though that drug testing for government checks and tax credits is a no-go for these marxists. What about the crack smoker, drug addict and alcoholic? (eye roll)
All your bodies are belong to us!
I’m just happy that the government isn’t doing something fascistic like monitoring overseas phone calls placed to known terrorists!
The amazing thing is that, as I understand it, Roe was a decision solely dealing with privacy between a doctor and patient. This “electronic system” negates that privacy. In effect, the libtards are legislating away Roe.
It’s a cultural thing.
They can’t get vegetables at their local grocery store.
Poor people can’t afford healthy food.
They’ve not been educated about what healthy food is.
No one ever taught them how to cook healthy food.
It’s the crackers’ fault.
There are always excuses and, of course, the “absolutely critical” government programs to fund to help These Poor People.
