Motorola's eagerly anticipated Droid X smartphone is expected to hit the hot summer streets in just a few hours. But don't plan on hacking, rooting or modding the Android-powered device anytime soon.
In addition to locking down the smartphone with an encrypted bootloader, Motorola has instructed its obedient Droid to brick itself if the kernel, bootloader or ROM becomes noticeably compromised.

I use my Droid as my main Bible reading tool, as well as for other e-books, and it would be unbearable if I wasn't able to use a root-only hack to shut off the LED lights along the bottom. My poor eyes were almost bleeding when I would try to read in the dark.
Of course, there is no option on the 'approved settings' to turn off the LED lights.
BTW, any one else so used to ebooks now, you get annoyed at old-timey style books that don’t glow in the dark?
As for your book question, no, I don't mind the glow in the dark feature, but I did once move my cell phone to turn the page on the paper book I was reading while in a waiting room. I read LOTS of PDF files from the old books on google.

Oh noes! The sky is falling! First the Iphone antenna and now this! What’s a techno-slave gonna do? How about get some work done or play some basketball or spend time with the kids? Nah, we’ve got more important things to do like view porn and tweet everyone on the planet!
What Bible tool do you use?
I am a Logos owner and use library.logos.com. It syncs with my Bible and book reading plans. I can get to about 400 books from the logos library, which is about half of them.
I also have loaded LiveBible powered by biblegateway.com, but I have not had occasion to use either heavily for Bible reading like I did my Palm Pilot.
My favorite feature on my Blackberry? The camera. That’s it. It’s great to take pictures of my kids wherever I’m at. I never answer the damn thing or check my voice mail. Sometimes, I forget to charge it or take it with me in my daily routine. I am glad my company pays for it, even though they should have figured out by now they can’t get a hold of me on it! I loathe cell phones. What did we all do before we could bug each other all damn day long? ‘Root’ my phone? I thought rooting was something we did to sewer pipes. Now, there’s an idea...
Why are you wasting your time posting on FR when you could be playing ball with your kids right now?
Try duct tape
Did my work, knees are blown from military service so I don't play ball, and my kids are grown. Intellectual pursuits, like studying technology development from the 14th through 19th century keep me busy. Of course, I need 21st century tools to do that.
But then, I'm not a luddite that thinks I know best for everybody.

LMAO !
Renaissance man if ever there wuz.......:o)
Oyvey! I’ve been guilty too many times re: your tagline.
I’m typing this on a rooted Droid. I’m running a custom version of Android 2.2. My processor is overclocked to 1.25Ghz from 550Ghz, and I have Wi-Fi tethering. Rooting is the way to go.
According to the Mac crowd, a little duct tape can fix the antenna problem. It would probably work to cover the annoying LEDs as well.
How about a strip of black electrical tape to cover the led’s... you could nickname your droid “Wendy O”...
If this is true it will make modding these beasties profitable instead of a DIY project... I may have found a new profession...
I spent 2 hours watching my boy at Football scrimmage yesterday and 3 hours the day before. Yeah, his high school team is playing in July. By September, they’ll be unstoppable.
Luddite? I use a computer all day long. I probably know more about computers than most people here. I’ve operated a CNC when I was in maanufacturing and in the business world, I’ve programmed in Cobol and Visual Basic on a professional basis, as well.
I just don’t care for cell phones. I suppose I would be a Luddite if I actually rejected technology, but loathing it is not the same as rejecting it.
The biggest problem for me is the disconnect from the real world, at least I can walk away from my desktop. People can’t walk away from their cell phones.
lol
