A new poll shows Arizona Sen. John McCain widening his lead over his Republican challenger ahead of next month's GOP primary.
The Rocky Mountain Poll released Wednesday shows McCain leading former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth 64 percent to 19 percent. Political newcomer Jim Deakin had 5 percent.
McCain's margin has widened from a 54 percent to 28 percent lead he held over Hayworth in the same poll in April.
The telephone poll was conducted by the Behavior Research Center between June 30 and July 11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.4 percentage points. Pollsters surveyed a random sample of 334 registered Arizona voters, including 190 Republicans and 144 independents who said they would vote in the Republican primary.

If Sarah Palin is so powerful that she can do this, then she is completely undefeatable, and will be a lock for President.
Arizona Republicans ARE California Republicans. They're abandoning the state they ruined and are coming here in droves so they can ruin Arizona as well.
Four voters in our household who are voting against McCain. I don’t know anyone who is voting for McCain, except one lone person in our neighborhood with sign in front.
Now all McCain needs is that lovable thick hottie, Sarah Palin to strut around for him, and it’ll be a huge win/save for the Bringer of Barry!
Americans, fresh off their biggest brain-fart in history seek to top their stupidity with a RINO-Roundup of monumental proportions.
Welcome to RINOFEST ‘10!
THANK YOU for the encouragement!
AZ votes are really for our country - not just AZ. That’s how important AZ voters are!
This is a direct quote from the latest Rasmussen poll and writeup:
“The two men are also tied among conservative voters.
McCain is viewed Very Favorably by 30% of GOP voters in Arizona and Very Unfavorably by 11%.
Hayworths marks are 24% Very Favorable and 24% Very Unfavorable.”

>> Maelstorm: Looks like the “Free Money Govt Money” infomercial didn’t help.
They mock the free market to their peril - ignorant fools unable to differentiate infomercials from legislative tyranny. To hell with them!
Perhaps AZ’s judgment on illegal immigration deserves the criticism it’s getting after all.
Yup, and it’s so strong you can smell it whilst upwind!
I agree. Her endorsement of Hayworth would have made all the difference. This indicates a tone deafness on her part which does not bode well.
No, it wasnt for nothing. He had to spend $20 million to convince everyone he was more conservative then JD. BTW, thats money you and I gave to help in the campaign against Obama. McCain had it left over so he spent it taking down JD.

The sad thing is had he spent that money fighting 0bama and had he mounted such a tough battle against 0bama as he has against J.D. maybe we wouldn’t be cursed with 0bama as Pres—ent!
He’ll go all out to keep his Senate seat but acts like a whipped dog when running for the highest office in the land! Please folks from AZ don’t get sucked in by him again.
Perhaps Duncan Hunter and Jim DeMint should have campaigned strongly for Hayworth then he would be sitting on a 64pc favorable, right?
Which begs the question, why haven’t more conservative pols been conspicuously supportive of Hayworth?

I’d say because McCain is owed a lot of favors and he’s calling them in this time, every single one.
He has fought tooth and nail spewing lies and distortions in ad after ad. He started running ads against Hayworth before Hayworth said he was running!
McLame wouldn’t attach Zero on real things like Bill Ayers, his radical friends, his lack of experience, etc. etc. but he’s fighting to the death for his Senate seat.
Yep, after the primary, McShame will take a hard left turn.
I guess you missed the McCain - Palin love fest where she said that John was what the tea parties were all about. (barf)
Just when we thought AZ was getting it together....
The poll is not primary-focused. It was weighted. And yes, after all of my opposition research of McStain, I would be surprised if that poll were accurate.
More likely the poll was bought and paid for by liberal interests. I’d bet they are “helping” McCain so that the GOP will stay home in AZ in November.
Please explain in detail how he is more odd and creepy than McCain.
McCain handed your country to the Democrats and Obama through MCCain Feingold. It will never be the same. Hopefully the people in AZ understand that. McCain is also for amnesty and is tied to Soros. I still think he will lose.
