LV officer at Costco recorded in 911 call
Official says police shout at victim: 'Get on the ground'
A 911 call made by a Summerlin Costco employee captures police shouting orders to 39-year-old Erik Scott before the U.S. Military Academy graduate was shot and killed, according to Las Vegas police.
Capt. Patrick Neville said an employee was talking to dispatchers and was close enough to the scene on Saturday that a recording of the conversation caught an officer clearly yelling, "Get on the ground."
Police have refused to release the recording. Investigators hope to review store surveillance video, but Neville said he didn't know whether any video of the shooting existed.
In Nevada, you can have a loaded handgun in your car in PLAIN VIEW. You can also have it locked up out of view. You can’t have it on your body, concealed, in a car without a CCW.
Loaded, on the dashboard, on the seat beside you, not covered by anything - that’s OK per the NRS.
Your brother got the MPD treatment of the law in Nevada, of which I had been warned by several “cow county” LEO’s.
And some people are mocking those asking if it’s possible there’s a conspiracy.
It’s precisely little things like that which make one wonder. A “we’re still going through the video-surveillance trying to piece together everything that happened since his entry into the store.” would sound a whole lot more honest than a “We don’t know if there are any videos.”
There is no upside for either party, so it will be sat on or sealed.
With three cops, two of which were rookies, this guy was dead.
Vegas needs to train their police a heck of a lot better.
If you read their account it sounds a LOT like a “sympathetic squeeze” which means they jerked their trigger-finger when they heard the shot.
This indicates that they had their fingers on-the-trigger, a violation of one of the four rules of firearm safety:
KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU HAVE MADE THE CONSCIOUS DECISION TO FIRE.
Unless the MPD is shown to have be really outrageous in their cover-up, probably not. The local DA’s office is pretty compliant with the LVMPD in helping them with all manner of problems.
For example:
If it were you or I in that instance, we would have been cuffed and stuffed. But he gets away with a heartfelt talk, at the recommendation of the DA.
The current State AG is from Clark County. I don’t know whether she’s tied into the Clark County “machine” as it were.
Thanks again for info.
I had suspected something like that. Also, stress can cause a person to tense up, and if the finger is on the trigger fire the gun.
What type of pistol where the cops using?
“..including more than a dozen who said they saw Scott with the gun in his hand and out of his waistband, Neville said.”
First of all, Erik was aware that the employee saw the gun inside the store. The police were aware of the gun. IF indeed Erik had a gun in his hand, I believe it’s because one of the cops said, “Drop it,” and he was complying.
No widow but his father is rather well known.
Thanks so much for the ping! I am outraged that this fine young man was murdered by these incompetent idiots with a crowd of people nearby! May he rest in peace!
Reads like the fix is in. We’ll just have to see who, if anyone, decides to come clean.
I got my money on one of the rookies. Surely, one of them has a conscience? This is a forgivable sin, but only if one determines to “fess up.” Certainly, it’s not the kind of sin a man of conscience could live with.
We’ll see.
Considering that COSTCO sells video surveillance systems:

They’ll be passing that one past the accountants. Odds are real good they will undergo bankruptcy with this event. Best buy those good deals now.
The cops gave contradictory commands and the trigger happy FBI guy shot him in the face.
Neither of the victims were armed; they'd not robbed a bank lately; etc.
The FBI immediately put procedures in place to protect the guilty agent and his immediate supervisor. That was their FIRST MOVE. I don't think a civil suit got going until the FBI district manager was relocated to some other place to screw up ~ cover ups are always a mess you know, and how do you cover up your guy shooting a kid in the face eh? Stupid woman too (the supervisor).
There are illegal aliens in that town who would do a total hit on the cops and their families for $50 a head ~ just doing jobs Americans would like to do I suppose!
What type of pistol where the cops using?
According to Wiki, the LVMPD does not issue sidearms, but has each new officer privately buy one from an approved roster of make, model, and caliber.
I suppose so but that certainly isn’t the answer. There needs to be some accountability. Not revenge.
“I believe its because one of the cops said, Drop it, and he was complying.”
I believe in God and that Jesus Christ died for my sins. Many others don’t. We call it faith, what do you call your statement?
That happens all to often in these situations, amped up cops screaming contradictory orders and they all got their guns drawn, a 95% death sentence.
