Why am I not surprised?
I would be surprised, only because he produced a series on Showtime called Linc’s that actually starred Steven Williams as a black conservative who owned a bar in DC. They were very fair with their political discussions, just amazingly so.
I suppose anything’s possible though.
Personal opinion: there were a few “Taxi” episodes that could have challenged WKRP... But the Turkey Drop was a classic.
Good TV days I think maybe over.
“Lazy Poster” - guilty as charged. Thanks for covering for me!
And Gary Sandy played Andy Travis on WKRP (the only sane one).
Find myself watching all those old sitcoms which I missed during my busy years: i.e. Golden Girls, Cheers, Becker and of course, Andy Griffith & the Beaver. Seinfeld = timeless.
The only good one today is The Office.
Sitting here laughing hysterically just thinking about it! He DID have cocaine on his foot, the corrupt DJ told him it was foot powder, and Carlson innocently dumped it in his shoes. When his feet went numb and the truth about the coke (and the DJ) came out, he panicked. "Help me Andy, I'm hooked, I've got a monkey on my foot!" remains one of my favorite scenes. Gordon Jump was an unsung genius at physical comedy.
I googled for it, but didn’t find one...
We need a “Black Panther Name Generator”.
The closest I found was an Arabic name generator. Close enough I guess.
All the turkey’s will be on the ground at the event.
It sure would be wrong. The C-47 has a 6,000 lb. payload.
I’d have to go with Bailey myself. She had one smokin’ body back then, and has weathered the aging process much better than Loni did.
Good point.
And Bailey had brains!! Always an added benefit.... : )
It was Doug Wilders election as governor that brought us to Virginia, Tim Reid says. We decided that any state that was that progressive, is where we wanted to live. He adds that despite Los Angeles liberal reputation, racism is still prevalent. This little commie Reid is quite the money grubbing hypocrite too:You couldnt get a black man elected governor in California in a hundred years, he says. And, when he says it, when Tim Reid speaks of the obstacles blacks have experienced, including the obstacles in establishing careers in the film industry, he says it without malice, without any anger. His passion is obvious.
But rather than let passion turn to resentment, Tim and Daphne Maxwell Reid chose to put their money where their mouths are. In 1997, the couple brought together a group of investors, including former Virginia Governor, Mark Warner, to build New Millennium Studios in Petersburg. Why Petersburg? Central Virginia seemed to be the best place for our fledgling film industry, Tim Reid says. More here: Heritageriversonline.com
Brian Kirwin | June 15, 2010 | Comments (27)Gov. Bob McDonnell signed Virginias first tax credit incentives for film production this week, a milestone for economic development in a year where revenues are tight. But McDonnell cited the 14 to 1 return on investment that incentives like this generate as more than attractive . . .
Tim Reid, founder of New Millennium Studios in Virginia and better known as Venus Fly Trap on WKRP in Cincinnati, seemed to appreciate the point of my question when I asked about nurturing Virginia filmmakers.
I think there is much more to be gained in growing a Virginia film industry than attracting flybys from California.
Still, were in the game now, and thats more than weve ever been before.
And to all my film/arts/acting friends, Democrats Mark Warner and Tim Kaine never did so much as say hello to you. Republican Bob McDonnell gave your industry the tax incentives that Marky Mark and Timmy! never could . . .
My favorite is the one that had the cop on to show how drinking ruined your reflexes and the more Johnny drank the better he got at the test.
My favorite was the ad they ran for the mortician:
“Hey, you’re young and swingin’,
No time to think about tomorrow
But there ain’t no way to deny it
Some day, you’re gonna buy it.
Plan today,
Go for a Ferryman
Tomorrow!
Ferryman, Ferryman,
he’s the man with the plot, the man with the plan!
Ferryman, Ferryman,
He’s the mortician man who loves you!
A lot!”
I totally forgot that one. I am laughing just thinking about that. Looked on youtube but couldn’t find the clip.
Reid's Legacy Media Institute is being funded by a combination of support by the Virginia State University's Department of Mass Communication, the Cameron Foundation and the Virginia Film Office.
That show is still one of the funniest on TV. Also like Barney Miller and watch the reruns of that....its not at all dated and from the 70’s I think...
