This is deliciously funny. $3000 worth of damage is a hard enough hit to know you hit the car. That’s enough of a reason to get out and inspect damage.

When you hit an unattended parked car, always leave a note. The note should say:

I hit your car and all the bystanders think I’m writing a note for you that includes my name and number. Boy, are they gullible.

Eric Schneiderman was teaching Rachel Kagan to drive a stick-shift even though the car the were in was an automatic. Now that's strange.

A passing bicyclist who witnessed the incident jotted down Schneiderman's plate number and remained on the scene waiting for the owner of the damaged vehicle, who turned out to be NY1 executive editor Melissa Rabinovich. Karma.

"He said it was only later that Schneiderman discovered his car had been dented, . . . expressed his sincere apology, and offered to pay for all repairs."

Reminds me of a friend of a friend, who was busted for unemployment fraud and couldn't understand why he was still being prosecuted after he said it was only a mistake and would pay back the money.

Schneiderman is the biggest gun grabber there is. He is the one pushing microstamping in NY. I hope the guy and Kagan get what’s coming to them. More likely, though, they’ll skate by in this corrupt state. Imagine this—a hopeful A.G. breaking the law in NY. Hard to believe, I know!

Kagan's niece is Ugly Betty? It must run in the family.

I thought that name rang a bell. From a few months ago...

In Wake Of Goldman Scandal, Unions Push For Expansion Of Martin Act

Under current New York law, only the Attorney General has the power to sue investment firms under the act. But the legislation introduced last June by Assembly Member Richard Brodsky and State Sen. Eric Schneiderman would allow groups of institutional investors of over 500 people a six-year statute of limitations to sue for alleged wrongdoing using the Martin Act.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/14/nyregion/14schneiderman.html

The damaged car’s owner, Melissa Rabinovich, an executive editor for NY1, said it had $3,000 in damage: a cracked bumper, a damaged back panel and a cracked left taillight. She filed a police report and called Mr. Schneiderman’s office on Tuesday after tracing the license plate, which a witness had noted.

“He said he was sorry for the bump to my car, and I told him it wasn’t a bump,” Ms. Rabinovich said. “He went on to explain to me that the female who was driving the car was crying and he was sorry. I told him I was crying when I saw the damage.

“I have three children under 7, including a 4-year-old who is severely disabled and doesn’t walk. This minivan is our lifeline of transportation for him.”

In a statement, James Freedland, a spokesman for the senator, disputed the seriousness. “For New York 1 to call this a ‘hit and run’ is nothing short of outrageous,” he said.

He said that Ms. Kagan merely bumped Ms. Rabinovich’s minivan and that the senator had no idea any damage had occurred. “He has spoken with the owner of the other vehicle, expressed his sincere apology and offered to pay for all repairs,” he said.

NY1 said the Upper West Side Democrat was a passenger in a car driven by a staffer who sideswiped a vehicle parked in front of her on Ninth Avenue Monday night and pulled away without leaving a note. The staffer was identified as Rachel Kagan, 22-year-old niece of US Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan.

In other words, dispite the misleading headline, the DRIVER is the one liable and is Kagan's neice.
