BRITAIN'S fleet of nuclear submarines could be reduced to save money, but the renewal of the Trident system represented good value for money, said Defence Secretary Liam Fox.

Dr Fox said the number of submarines may be cut from four to three if it could be done while maintaining the UK's "continuous at-sea" deterrence, but any decisions on reducing the fleet would not be taken until 2014/15.

Nearly three-quarters of opinion formers in Britain think the government should either scrap the country's nuclear weapons or look for a cheaper alternative, according to a poll published yesterday

With Obama I was kinda depending on our Allies to bail us out.

we are just so screwed. You know that ticking Nuclear war clock it should be set to like two minutes to nuke time.
I know libs run that clock. They don't even understand what war is.

Even though that the Vanguard subs are under UK control they have two key roles. The first role,is part of a UK-only retaliatory response to a nuclear attack. The second role is one in which the Royal Navy participates in the SIOP, in effect becoming non-distinct from the U.S. Navy’s Trident submarines. The four submarines are responsible for 512 seperate targets inside Russia

"...number of submarines may be cut from four to three..."

Oh, the Iron Lady must be livid over what they have done to her England since she left office.

As I understand it, the actual number of warheads will be about the same: they will just be aboard three subs rather than four. Our UK subs didn’t usually carry a full load-out of nukes.

I can understand that a small nation like England with its financial woes might not be able to maintain 4 nuke subs, but I hate to see it go because England is one of our very few secure allies.
