Sarah Palin Offers Generalities, Not Solutions, on Illegal Immigration
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | July 13, 2010 | Joseph Klein

Posted on 07/13/2010 12:50:34 PM PDT by HorowitzianConservative

Poor Sarah Palin is not only getting roughed up regularly by the liberal mainstream press. Last Friday on the “O’Reilly Factor,” Bill O’Reilly gave her a hard time during a discussion on illegal immigration for being too general.

O’Reilly asked Palin what she would do about the immigration mess if she were in the Oval Office, a reasonable question considering her possible run for president in 2012. She replied in general terms that she would put as many troops as it would take on the border:

This is a top priority and a national security issue so I’d do whatever it takes. You shouldn’t give a free pass to anybody who wants to scurry across this porous border, so there would be no amnesty. We can not make it easy on those who have chosen to be here illegally and disobeyed our laws. You make them register with the federal government, and if they don’t you deport them.

These generalities on the illegal immigration problem were followed by Palin’s appeal to her “mama grizzlies”:

A mama grizzly, in a political sense, is someone who is watching what is going on that is adversely affecting our cubs, our children. There are common sense conservative women who are willing to run for office or support candidates to take this country back.

If Sarah Palin is going to lead her mama grizzlies “to take this country back,” she needs to start offering more specific solutions to tough problems like illegal immigration.

Palin needs to start laying out her case more effectively if she ever wants to be taken seriously by anyone other than her fans.

She is not President nor is she a member of Congress, idiots. They are ultimately the ones who will decide this, not Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Romneybot, etc. =.=

why? because Joe Klein says so? I think her answer here is fine. Build up the border, no amnesty. That’s all I need to hear now. We are almost 2.5 years away from the next election.

Agreed. She's traded on her looks and flashy speaking style too long. What? I said that about Obama too?

Bottom line - we need a candidate of substance not TV image.

I think she's fine.

Obama's plan consists of making sure that no one enforces federal laws -- and if a state tries to enforce a law on immigration, Obama will step in and make sure they're prevented from doing so.

Sarah's "generalities" sound a heck of a lot better to me.

Joe Klein is a liar...

Palin laid out an excellent plan...Starting with securing the border from illegal invaders!

What’s “general” about putting as many troops on the border as necessary to seal it up?

I guess you have to have a liberal’s screwed up worldview in order to see that that is a solution.

Their “solutions” usually involve some talk and pandering then stating that they’ve done something.

No, she doesn't need to give specifics on every issue on demand.

She's not running for anything...nor is she writing any bills.

Governor Palin has already said the borders need to be secured first. She has emphasized this prior to O'Loud Mouth interrupting her.

If she's planning a run for president, why would she need to lay out the rest of her agenda now and show her hand to her potential rivals? They'll immediately nitpick it and try to one-up her. There's no need to go into specifics about it now. Wait until she declares.

She supports border enforcement first. That's good enough for me until I hear the rest of her details.

The left only wants her to be more specific so they can shoot her solutions down. They are laying a trap for her.

Before you can talk specifics, you need to come to a concensus of the general direction. You don’t start talking about specific travel plans till you decide if you are going East, West, North, or South. Once you decide a direction, then you can start talking about the specifics of how to get there.

Sealing the border, no amnesty, enforcing current laws—these are general directions, but they are as specific as you need to get now.

At this point, I think it is impossible for ANY Conservative candidate to be TOO clear or TOO emphatic. Say it ... and be consistent in what you say!! Nothing less is going to work!

Clarity will always go further with American voters than anything else. We can’t afford equivocation any more!!

I disagree. She was very specific about a double fence along the border. She was also specific about not rewarding the illegals already here. She was very specific about militarizing the border.

So, fence, guards, and a “no reward for illegal entry” policy.

She was hazy on how to identify and deal with those already here, but that’s understandable. No one’s tried it yet.

What IS a sure-fire way to identify an illegal? Once you identify them, what’s a sure-fire way to humanely repatriate them to their own country? The truth is that I’m not sure myself. I’ve never thought it through.

To 1 - What other potential '12 candidate is laying out their case effectively?

Answer: None. Palin has spoken out, and up, on illegal immigration more than all other touted '12 candidates combined.

You’re right, a surge on the border would make eminent sense. The more of them that get caught, the less will try.

It does seem so sometimes doesn't it LOL. I haven't watched his show in ages, there's only so much of his selfrightousness one can take :)

As for Sarah's answer I don't see the problem, from what is stated here, put lots of troops on the border, keep the illegals out...what more do you need?

I mean yeah she left out some parts that I might have wanted if dealing with tons of illegals like you do in the US. Like introducing more alligators to the Rio Grande, but hey you can't always get everything you wish for...;)

If you want to win the Presidency you must avoid specifics. TV image is everything.

So her speeches, op-eds, Facebook notes, and as a FNC contributor ripping the Obama administration to shreds are the equivalent of stilettos and Revlon then?
