The Fading Embers of Obama's Coalition (WAPO turning on Obama)
The Washington Post ^ | July 13, 2010 | Marc A. Thiessen

Posted on 07/12/2010 10:04:57 PM PDT by no dems

With midterm elections less than four months away, Republicans are fired up and ready to go. But they are not the only ones upset with Barack Obama. The president has also angered many of the key Democratic constituencies he needs to keep control of the House and Senate, and now Democrats are blowing furiously on the fading embers of their electoral coalition, hoping to stave off disaster this November.

Unions are incensed with Obama and congressional Democrats for their failure to deliver on key priorities such as card-check legislation. Another disenchanted constituency is Hispanics. Latino support for Obama has dropped 12 points since the start of the year, as anger has grown over the Democrats' failure to make immigration reform a priority.

The drop in Hispanic support is dwarfed by the astounding 36-point drop in support for Obama from one of the most reliable Democratic constituencies: Jewish voters. Jewish Americans are outraged with Obama, says former New York Mayor Ed Koch. And it's not because Obama's middle name is Hussein. Obama alienated many in the Jewish community by reaching out to Iran while relentlessly criticizing Israel.

First Maureen Dowd of the NY Times, then Olbermann and Matthews, then The Huffington Post and now The Washington Post. B. Hussein is losing his coalition and his media darlings.

What a bunch of b.s.

Unions are “incensed” with Obama? Riiiight.

Hispanics fleeing the Dems because of Obama? Suuure.

And the Jews? Since when have most American Jews given a fig about Israel?

If only it were for the right reasons, but we’ll take what we can get.

Thiessen is not Maureen Dowd, Olbermann or Matthews. He was a speechwriter for Rumsfeld and later Dubya. I saw him went after Christiane Amanpour on ‘torture’ issue. He explicitly told her that she helped speading the lies about the issue, that clearly rattled her. Besides, this is an Op-Ed, where the editors let some conservatives to write whatever they want.

I don’t believe. Most hispanics, union members and Jews still love him along with gays, muslims, etc etc.

Hey, I'd love to see Hillary challenge B. Hussein for the Dem nomination in 2012. A good old fashioned blood bath; better than in '80 when Ted Kennedy, unsuccessfully, challenged the incumbent Dem, Jimmy Carter.

I smell the B.S. here too. All of this “discontent” with The Won is meaningless unless his usual and customary constituencies either stay home on election day or vote for other than a Democrat.

Yes, but if you can get even a percentage of his base to turn on him, that can cost him the midterms and possibly make him a one-term President.

The democrats could fix their problem easy enough. Somebody knows why Obama hasn’t produced his birth certificate. Initiating impeachment proceedings against him would go a long way towards getting their reputations back.

Well, for one thing, we've had our Black President. The new has worn off; the novelty is gone. And, he has done very little for the Brothas and Sistas. I'm sure the Crack Houses and the HO Houses will not clear out and vote on election day in 2012 like they did in '08. And I guarantee you, they will not turn out on November 2nd for the Mid-Terms.

Democrats are blowing furiously on the fading embers of their electoral coalition, hoping to stave off disaster this November. In the process they are abdicating their responsibilities to govern -- failing to pass a budget or any of their annual spending bills, while using their executive and legislative powers to appease their special interests instead.

Yes, but they wouldn't have had to if it weren't for Bush. It would all have been perfect if it weren't for Bush. They'd have confiscated the Rolls Royces from The Wealthy and given them to us all if it weren't for Bush. They'd have created peace, justice, and international harmony by now if it weren't for Bush. They'd have cured cancer, ended Climate Change, squared the circle, and defeated Big Oil by powering our eco-conscious yurts by perpetual motion machines if it just weren't for Bush.

Uh, yeah, I'm applying for a job as a DNC speechwriter. Why do you ask?

Left-of-Center independents will turn against 0bama, just as they turned to Scott Brown, if they blame 0bama for their unemployment, or for not getting a loan, or for losing their house, or if their new healthcare premium cuts into their paychecks.

Forget the arguments about whether such people should or should not blame the Prez...

If oil fouls up the Florida Keys, driving away tourists and plunging home prices further, then gays in Florida will turn against 0bama.

If gasoline goes too high, then soccer moms will turn against 0bama.

If people don’t get to keep their doctor, then single moms will turn against 0bama.

That is, if there is any viable competition to turn to...
