Your figures don’t add up and unless you have an extremely credible source for that figure, I wouldn’t use it. Right now, I don’t know that any of the players have a reliable cost.

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2010/03/19/339714/f-35-cost-estimate-grows-up-to-nearly-90.html

http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story_generic.jsp?channel=aerospacedaily&id=news/asd/2010/03/12/01.xml

And if you don’t mind, post your source stating the Dutch have “left the program”. I found one article from Dutch News on 29 June and it appears that at the time (2 weeks ago) they hadn’t made a decision and another at what appears to be a blog, but a pretty well referenced one. That’s not saying they won’t quit, I can’t find any evidence that they have.

I corrected myself if you bother to read post number 7.

I wasn’t questioning you correcting yourself, I was questioning the information you’re using to base your posts on.

As I stated, I can’t find a reliable cost estimate nor can I find any information that states the Dutch have officially pulled out of the program (although it’s probably just a matter of time).

You made two claims, I’m asking for your source(s) as a means to verify what you said.

Trust but verify.

That’s all.

I’m fine with Israel buying stealthy F-15’s. I’d be even better with the USAF buying a couple hundred to fill out our ranks while waiting for the F-35 to come online.

Like momma always said: you can never be too rich, too thin, or have too many Strike Eagles. :-)

“Zero leaves office in 2013 at the earliest, therefore there’s no difference in this choice from the standpoint of timing — Zero will never permit the Israelis to upgrade. “ Two verses come to mind when I read your post Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. And in Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. He can crap all over any of our allies but Israel is one nation that God will not allow anyone to touch his anointed. So him staying until 2013 is very doubtful, Amen

The F-35 cannot be considered a success by any measure. It was supposed to be a "cheap' superjet, capable of performing the missions of three types of aircraft, all in one airframe.

It has ballooned in cost, is wayyyy behind schedule, and will perform none of it's jobs well. The only reason so many countries signed onto the program was due to the (not met) low cost, and huge industrial offsets.

Nearly every country involved is second-guessing their decision, and more than one will drop out, or severely curtail the numbers.

It's a flying pig-in-a-poke that was a lousy idea at inception, and still is.

I disagree. The F-35 program is progressing rather well. They have had success after success. The engine is what holding everything up.

Did I say otherwise?

I asked the poster to source his claims, that's all.

As you are making claims "...and will perform none of it's jobs well." without any ability to substantiate the comment.

Unless you're willing to stake your reputation on it...

Do you have a ping list for JSF related articles?

Articles can get missed if you’re not on FR almost every waking minute.

When I complained about the HUGE cost overruns of the F-22 and F-35 stealth fighters and suggested that instead the money be put into modifying the F-16, F-18, and F-15 designs to make them more capable and more stealthy I was berated.

Now I am vindicated. Apparently more than one person thinks that modifying existing airframes to increase their capabilities is a good idea.

It will NOT perform it's jobs as well as purpose-built aircraft.

That's no debateable.

No machine can be bastardized to perform as well as one built specifically for the task.

Simply can't be done, and no amount of corporate mealy-mouthing will make it so.

Still an amazing airplane and they keep making it better.

I've never seen a performance v cost comparison between the newest F-15 variants v the F-18 Super Hornet, but my guess is the F-15 is still the better airplane. Unless you want to land on a carrier.
