A lawyer representing the family of a man fatally shot by police at the Costco in Summerlin denied police reports Monday that the man had pulled out a handgun and pointed it at police.
Erik Scott, 39, had at least one handgun with him at the time of the shooting Saturday, but also had a concealed weapon permit, attorney Ross Goodman said.

This is akin to a woman screaming “RAPE” if she doesn’t like the way a guy looks at her.
Blood is surely on this employees hands. Hopefully a name will be released.
I agree with LRM's post #30. Include the clerk in the lawsuit.
This is just wild speculation, but I suspect the clerk's message was one bordering on hysteria, and as a consequence the policemen were 'amped' up when they came to the store - and had already drawn conclusions that there was a wild man in the store waving a gun around. If that's the way in played out, the clerk and policemen all need to be fired and sued.
But in my opinion the CostCo corporation shouldn't be in the suit (not that the lawyers will keep them out), because I don't see how they can be held accountable for a clerk that breaks down at the sight of an evil firearm (who knows how she reacts when she reads the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights? Probably curls up into a ball and hides under her/his bed...). Its only a clerk position - its hard to see how CostCo could have prevented this one. The Police, on the other hand - they are supposed to be trained, and able, to handle these situations.
No and I doubt we will.
Agreed. You are totally correct. If not for the Costco employee the guy would still be alive.
I carry in the stores all the time. What the he** is a CCW for if not to carry in the places most likely to get you shot(usually by a criminal)? What a stupid statement. The trick is to make sure it is always, and I mean ALWAYS, hidden from sight so some hysterical idiot doesn’t panic.
I do understand what you are saying, it just is that the store manager is responsible as well. From reading the story, it sounds like the store manager ordered the store to be evacuated.
My question has been, based on what?
Did the police request this, or did this store manager get informed by the slandering clerk, and made this decision WITHOUT checking the facts?
Costco could well be culpable in this situation.
What did this store manager know, and HOW did he know it?
Why the hell would you pack heat in Costco?
(And who that is respectful of personal defense says “pack heat”?)
NAY!
ALL IN FAVOR ?
AYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really?
Based on what?
Back up your claim.

Well, there ya go! He had one gun, ergo, he must have many.
Idiots!
“Why the hell would you pack heat in Costco?
One could almost nominate this guy for a Darwin award. BUT, since he is one of us, a patriot, were not saying the obvious: What a STUPID thing to do.
Sorry the man is dead, truly sorry, but I wont be packing heat in WalMart or other discount stores. ITS NUTS!”
True story: a friend of my sister’s, an off duty female police officer, was at Walmart when another female friend the cop’s pulled up in her minivan. The minivan driver just needed a single item and wasn’t going to be in Walmart long so she ran into the store and left the motor running and the minivan unlocked. The driver stopped to talk with her friend the police officer then said “Well, I’m in a hurry and I’ve got to go. I left the minivan running.”
The cop insisted on going with her and checked the minivan out. Guess what was inside? A man hiding inside who had just been released from prison after being there for rape.
Understand?
Its my opinion and frankly don’t really care if you agree.
I suspect the clerk's message was one bordering on hysteria, and as a consequence the policemen were 'amped' up when they came to the store911 phone calls have been around for decades now. Don't police get training regarding the fact that you can't judge the situation in advance based on the level of hysteria of the caller?
Evidently not in LV.
its hard to see how CostCo could have prevented this oneIt was their clerk; their responsibility. Furthermore, it was their manager who "sounded the general alarm" and evacuated the store. I don't see how Costco could have been more involved.
This is Eriks father:

About Erik:
His father was in the Air Force, and his grandfather fought in World War II, friend Mike Pusateri said.
The most loyal, honest, trustworthy, salt-of-the-earth guy you could meet, said Pusateri, 38. You only meet one or two of those kinds of guys in your life, and Erik is one of them.

Huh? You seriously won’t carry at Walmart? I carry everywhere, especially places like Walmart with their cross-section of humanity.
What’s the point of carrying if you don’t?
Well then, I suppose it is only fitting that I tell you that I don’t give a rat’s ass about you, either.
AMEN!
