MSNBC Host Gets 'Raw': Says America Didn’t End Slavery, Just Outsourced It to China
Newsbusters ^ | July 12, 2010 | Jeff Poor

Leave it to Dylan Ratigan, one of the star personalities at MSNBC who seems to be constantly looking for a reason to be angry.

On his July 12 show, Ratigan posed his view on how trade between China and the United States operates. According to Ratigan, importing products where labor costs are significantly lower is akin to slavery. He specifically named Foxconn, a company that manufactures iPhones and iPads for Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). (h/t @KenShepherd)

"Do you want to get raw?" Ratigan said. "Let's say that the American people happily, logically apathetic are perfectly happy basically with a slave culture of illegals and outsourced slaves in China making iPhones at Foxconn and that for as much as we talk about the liberation of the slaves and we like to pat ourselves on the back for the Civil War - got a big statue of Abe Lincoln. All we've really done is alter the color of some our slaves and moved them to other countries. Is that too extreme on my part, Matt?"

What is funny pre-slavery Southerners in the Antebellum era said the same exact thing about industrial workers in the North. Yeah we have slavery in the South but they are better off than workers slaving away in dirty, dangerous factories for a few cents a day in the North.

OMG!

And to think all 17 viewers probably saw this rant!

I hope MSNBC steps up and sends out coffee mugs autographed by Keith Olberman himself to all of them....

If a conservative said this he’d be denounced as racist for minimizing the terrible nature of human slavery.

A agree with him. It is dishonest to import Mexican slaves and to use Chinese/Asian slaves. It is dumb too and leads to self destruction, running huge trade deficits and the election of pukes like Obama. When I was young there were lots of factories in cities (it was called light industry) and zero illegal aliens. Today we have lots of illegal aliens and many factories gone to China etc. Because the elites saw more easy lazy profits in selling stuff than in making stuff. We aborted and had so few children that we welcome illegal and legal immigrants who don't really like us for the most part.

Americans got lazy spoiled and complacent and this leads to destruction. That's what happens when have slaves

Well actually it is hopefully their way out of slavery.

With wealth they should be able to throw off their chains.

As poor peasants they had no power and no chance to throw off the chains themselves.

MSNBC is terrible.

MSNBC will soon be just a memory - and this kind of drivel is why.

Americans are sick and tired of hearing that they are somehow guilty of 'slavery-by-proxy' and other crimes against humanity just because they buy things at Wal Mart to save a little money, own an SUV or a flat screen TV that was made in China.

This constant drumbeat of negativity from the left will help sink the Democrats in the November elections.

I have no idea what the response will be amongst Freepers, but I also agree with Ratigan and yourself here.

The real anti-slaver crusaders working in the trenches and on the ground throughout Asia and Africa (and a little less than 180 miles off the US coast in Haiti) are regularly “disappeared” by the regimes in those places.

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Martha Stewart, and hundreds of others in the USA are slave owners, put together the top one hundred of them and they control more slaves today in 2010 than the total number of slaves that ever existed in North America before Canada Mexico and the United States outlawed slavery.

Every single American household contains products manufactured by slave labor.

Keep that in mind Freepers when throwing rocks at glass houses.

All we've really done is alter the color of some our slaves and moved them to other countries.

I wonder who owns these slaves that were moved outside of the USA? If we moved our slaves out, then someone here owns them, and that that would be a big news break for MSNBC, they should report the slave owners to federal investigators.

I also wonder how we change someones skin color, outside of Michael Jackson, I wasn't aware of that kind of technology.

Dylan Ratigan is a pompous, know-it-all, smarmy, a$$hole.

The standard of living has never been higher in China. Trying to compare a mature economy with one in its infancy is plain stupid.

If Dylan DIRTBAGigan had anything worthwhile to say he wouldn’t be one MSNBC.

That’s a good observation.

It seems to be the natural progression of things. China is starting up the hill of personal wealth and throwing off the chains of slavery. They are just very late to the party... As they acquire wealth they will demand better working conditions and a better environment. As those things happen China will be less competitive yet begin to normalize with the rest of the modern world. Personally I think we’ve seen the peak in low cost Chinese production. As they modernize it will increase the cost of their products and in time their advantages will fade away. If they don’t throw of their Communist overlords they will fail to realize their full potential as only true freedom can bring, particularly when it comes to true innovation.

You are making a assumption that can not possibly come to bear, that of a straight hockey stick graph of Chinese socioeconomic progress.

The imminently coming correction in the Chinese economy is going to consolidate power amongst the oppressors, the Politburo has been preparing for this since 2 years prior to the Tienanmen Square massacre.

Says America Didn’t End Slavery, Just Outsourced It to China

This is true!

Who here can deny it?

And don't call me names. I'm a good conservative who believes the workers in China are treated like slaves. It's true and you know it.

Is this an admission that those who live under Communism live the life of a slave?

If so, it is certainly true.

But this liberal tool doesn't want to make that point, or do anything about it. No the alpha and the omega of the typical liberals “morality” is feeling guilty.

I think this idiot actually thinks American capitalism is more responsible for the Chinese living in slavery than Chinese communism.

Welcome to the world of “Free-Trade”

Workers in western nations made big bucks per hour,
while workers in third world nations make small change.

Where do you think the jobs are going?

Get the US out of NAFTA, GATT, the WTO & the World Bank.

I’ll take “Fair-Trade” over free trade any day.
