The man shot by police outside a Summerlin Costco store on Saturday was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a master's degree from Duke University, friends said.
Army veteran Erik Scott, 39, was at the store near Charleston Boulevard and the Las Vegas Beltway with his girlfriend before three officers fatally shot him in a confrontation.

That was the most stupid , offensive, insensitive comment..I would expect that on the Daily Kos...are you sure you are not a total Lib that you could even joke that this Army Officer was needlessly killed?
that just made me sick.
I hope justice is served in this case but the veteran made a rookie mistake by allowing his concealed weapon to be seen. Concealed carry to me means never letting anyone have even a clue that Im carrying.I was wondering when someone was going to mention that. I don't carry myself so have no experience on this issue but I thought about this before you posted it and I think you are right.
That does NOT excuses murder-by-cop, nor does it excuse that despicable slime-ball employee who had his/her feelings hurt and ended in calling in a bunch of homicidal copes to assuage his/her ego.
I hope this guy's family sues Cosco for a huge sum and wins. (I don't hope they sue the city because then it just means the taxpayers have to pay and what did they do?)
The cops, all 3 of them (if what seems like what happened actually happened) should get long prison terms.
What I am saying is that if you have a CCW, it is impossible to not accidentally expose your weapon....it shouldn't be a death sentence....besides, NV is an open carry State.
Citizens trust cops who open carry, why are they more trust worthy then the average Joe....because the Gov. says so?
I would put my hands in the air and ask for a more specific command while trying not to wet myself.
Typo....?
No. Those are members of the Standing Armies the Founders warned us about.
When they are the last place on earth to shop, I'll be living in the woods.Amen.
That's how it is here where I live. CCW Instructor (a state cop) told us that we had to make every REASONABLE attempt to ensure that the weapon remained concealed, but that if someone were to catch a glimpse by accident, that it would not be a violation.
Oh yeah, that is soooofunny..especially since this is a very sad story...No, its not funny here.
We have 12 year olds posting tonite.
Yes. I knew it was lst when nearly every cop in the country started wearing fatigues and combat boots.
The article says June 12, 2010. Did this happen a month ago or today?
It wasn’t the typo..it was the comment..joking about ‘so you know he is gay, how?’
with this story, it is just not funny at all.
OMG, common sense is rearing it's ugly head!
:)
Never mind. I clicked on the article it happened today. Why does your post say a month ago?
Happened this past weekend.
Agree....am waiting for the facts and hopefully the truth to come out....
I am just heartbroken about this...It is awful..that young man, our finest. What a crazy event...I too want to hear what happened..though I fear it is cop mis handling.
Was it a rent’a cop or ‘security” ?
I am getting sick of these stores and their thuggery. I went to Wallmart, bought a small bag of things, and two rolled carpet runners. I get to the door and this lady demands to see the receipt” If its not in a bag I have to see a receipt” WTF? It gets dangerous when these Wallmart types go out of control with “Power”...ha.
Now watch them try to weasel their way out of it.
They don’t have any right to see anything of yours. You may let them as a courtesy, but it’s your property once you have purchased it. They don’t have anymore right to peek in your bag or see your receipt as I do.
I could be walking around in there and an employee calls the cops and they shoot me on his sayso?! Naw, can't take that chance.
BJ's was going under. Guess they'll be able to use the business.
