Senate Secures Enough Votes to Pass Wall Street Reform Bill
The Woodward Report ^ | July 12, 2010

Posted on 07/12/2010 12:19:35 PM PDT by honestabe010

With the newest member of the Senate, Republican Scott Brown, committing his vote to the financial regulatory bill the only action left to pass the bill is the appointment of a replacement for the late Senator Robert Byrd. West Virginia’s Governor Joe Manchin is expected to announce a replacement sometime later this week.

Brown, who will give the Senate the sixty votes needed to pass the bill, stated that he in no way thinks that the bill is perfect, but believes that it is a necessary measure in order to insure confidence in both the economy and financial markets.

Today Brown said, “I appreciate the efforts to improve the bill, especially the removal of the $19 billion bank tax. As a result, it is a better bill than it was when this whole process started. While it isn't perfect, I expect to support the bill when it comes up for a vote. It includes safeguards to help prevent another financial meltdown, ensures that consumers are protected, and it is paid for without new taxes.”

Brown, who was vigorously courted by Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.), is the first Republican to decide to vote for the measure.

The bill could possibly pass before the appointment of Byrd's replacement if Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine, who has been on the fence concerning the bill, decides to vote in favor of the legislation.

Another RINO caves ... anyone who had any thoughts that Scott was anything but a RINO, I suggest they forget them.

This finance bill is the nail in the coffin of small business entrepreneurs in America. And what about the cause of the finance meltdown Fannie and Freddie? How do you square that circle.

And the second step in the enabling act for America. Don’t know that enabling act means, think German tyranny in 1933 and how the German parliament doomed the German people.

Call now and tell Brown to not be so dumb.

Sorry, I do think that to vote for any bill now comes with a, “whats in it for me”? I am sure that Mr. Brown, like all others to vote for it, have something in the medicine to make it go down easier.

Isn’t this the bill that has to be passed before we can see what it does? Why hasn’t that point been brought up?

OK, OK, I’ll stop asking stupid questions...

We’ve seen the same thing with past Obama legislation - they like to declare victory before a bill actually passes in order to create a sense of inevitability that weakens the opposition. The bottom line is that it has not passed yet and, as always, the fight should go on.

The titles at the end of their names mean nothing. It comes back to, whats in it for me? I hope the new congress critters will change that, I do not think so, however. As soon as they step into the Caucasus, they are given the speech. You know, do as your overlords tell you to do or you will not be in Washington long. Sorry, voting for the people and not for themselves is a system that has been long ignored.

As far as I can tell, voting for any bill now is a stick in the eye of America, freedom and liberty. And there will be a cost ... to those that vote for it.

In summary, what Scott Brown proves is that no one in MA can be trusted to be a conservative politician, no matter what he/she says before election. His treason since election is nauseating and simply reinforces that most MA politicians are bald-assed liars.

Another RINO out of the closet.

He was never in the closet ... weren't you paying attention?

Scott Brown's claims to fame were that he wasn't a democrat, he wasn't Ted Kennedy and he was more conservative than Martha Coakley ... not much to pin your hopes on in the first place.

This close to an election someone please tell me why the GOP continues to help the democrats get legislative victories that are bad for this country? I would have thought they’d be trying to show everyone they were the OPPOSITION party.

Another RINO stabs the country in the back during a crucial vote. When I heard on the news that a repubic caved I figured it was Snowe, Collins or Brown. Repub progressives will get us to the same place, it’ll just take a little longer getting there.
