What Would a Maverick Do?
Ny Magazine ^ | 061110 | Joe Hagan

In the spring of 2009, Nevada senator Harry Reid approached John McCain with a message, ostensibly from President Barack Obama.

“If you put an immigration bill in, we’ll get behind it,” Reid told McCain, according to a person briefed on the conversation.

McCain, who’d failed to pass an immigration bill co-sponsored with Ted Kennedy in 2007, and was roundly whipped by his own party for the attempt, was infuriated by the offer. “Me, put a bill in and he’ll get behind it?” McCain asked. “Why doesn’t the president put a bill in and I’ll get behind it?”

"Why doesn’t the president put a bill in and I’ll get behind it?"

Gee, I dunno--could it have anything to do with the fact that coming up with the laws is the job of the LEGISLATIVE BRANCH, aka, YOUR JOB, and not the president, who is head of the Executive Branch?

Get ready for Juanito to DO IT AGAIN, if he wins the primary...

This is the single best reason to vote for JD Hayworth.

A pseudo-Maverick would behave like a RINO.

To a person, ex-advisers and staffers to John McCain describe the same man: Impulsive, emotional, dependent to a fault on the advice of others, but unwilling or unable to resolve infighting, he lets mismanagement corrupt his best intentions, winning elections and congressional victories almost despite himself.

And unfit for any public office. Never was fit for public office, but PR and a helpful media can foist most anything on much of the American public.

And as panic overtook McCain in early 2010, it would be Davis who channeled it into a tactical short game, advising him to co-opt Hayworth’s political turf by tacking into his positions, out-tea-partying Hayworth on immigration. Consequently, McCain’s Arizona tail wagged his Washington dog: McCain would soon reverse or greatly reel in his previous positions on torture, on cap and trade, on gays in the military, and, finally, crucially, on immigration. “Rick Davis carries the most influence with John,” says a McCain intimate. “Salter’s on the outside.”

McCain is a pathetic, lying weasel and a shameless hypocrite who'll do anything to hang on to his political power. Will the voters of Arizona fall for it?

This article is full of evidence and confirmation that Juan is as low a lying, scheming weasel as many of us have known for years.

“There are two John McCains,” muses an old friend of the senator’s. “The one I love is a very big man, and he’s willing to take on big issues in a big way. Then there’s another side of John, he’ll admit, that is petty and angry and petulant and small, and that side has overtaken the other one.”

In that book, McCain admitted that in the 2000 presidential primary, he’d supported South Carolina’s right to fly the Confederate flag against his own belief that it was a symbol of racism.

“I didn’t want to do this,” he says. “But I could tell from the desperate looks of my staff that we had an enormous problem. And that it could come down to lying or losing. I chose lying.”

Something that comes as naturally as breathing to Juan, and all too many other politicians. Lying is definitely at the heart of his campaign to try and hoodwink his way to another six years in the Senate.

Left wing reporters (excuse the redundancy) appear to be getting increasingly upset with Juan for his sudden “conservative conversion.” No more back stabbing his nation, the American people and the republican party. Well don’t worry guys. As soon as the primary is over, Juan will be right back to his old sell-out form.

Hidden on the last page of the article...

"Ironically, both McCain’s opponent and his own supporters agree on one thing: If he wins, he’ll probably morph yet again, a lame-duck senator with nothing to lose, tacking left to reclaim his old mantle as a thorn in his party’s side."

And the final sentence, a quote from John McCain...

“I didn’t want to do this,” he says. “But I could tell from the desperate looks of my staff that we had an enormous problem. And that it could come down to lying or losing. I chose lying.”

Hayworth doesn't excite me, though I'm not from Arizona he seems to be similar to many entrenched GOP statists. However, if Arizona elects McCain again they almost deserve to lose Arizona to Mexico. I lived in Arizona for 5 years back in the early 80s and the illegal immigration problem was horrible. It has to be even worse now though it would be hard for me to imagine.

Look, I appreciate your comments, but the Hayworth statist line is really beneath you.

J.D. has a 97.5% ACU rating for his twelve years in Congress, while McCain only had a 65% in 1966. I looked this much up the other day for another post and have it fresh in my memory.

J. D. is a good guy. He doesn’t deserve these kinds of comments about him.

I have been noticing a lot of people coming here to say McCain isn’t very good, but J. D. isn’t much better. That is not factual, and it causes me to react stridently to the slander.

Look, you’ve actually bought off on it. It isn’t true.

I pray you are correct. Like I said, I am no longer in Arizona. My current state is facing similar situation in that the front runner is family dynasty entitled GOP, and the other choice is not well-known and not easily defined or researched.

Accept my apology if Hayworth is a decent choice. You are correct in that I only find out political things here on FR as our paper thinks BO is the berries and nothing but leftist junk is what they will print.

I just know that we have to get rid of RINOS and having a choice between 2 RINOS is not a choice I'd want to have to make. Best of luck. And, Congrats on your current Governor. I hope this immigration thing gets settled soon. It's been going on for 30 or 40 years and gets worse each day.

I still don't care for John McCain (as a politician).
