There may be no vote a United States Senator casts that is more important than a vote to confirm a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court. Now that the Court has clearly stated that the Second Amendment is a fundamental, individual right that applies to all law-abiding Americans, NRA members and gun owners expect a nominee to the Court to fully support, defend and preserve that freedom.

She should not serve on any court, let alone be confirmed to a lifetime seat on the highest court in the land.
The NRA is strongly opposed to the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court. This vote matters and will be a part of future candidate evaluations.
Is this a shot across Harry Reid's bow?
If so, can he postpone the vote to after the election?
Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it. Just a suggestion.
Let Freedom Ring,
Think that will matter? But this could explain why the NRA was hinting at backing Reid.
Pennsyvalia Senators . . . You listening? Michigan? Wisconsin?
Keep them all worried and working, for us!
How about little Markie Pryor? How many times must I see this asshat donning his camo for campaign ads and then vote for Marxist judges?
Hmm... Support Reids reelection in exchange for Reid not voting on Kagan?
I wouldn’t trust Reid as far as I can throw him. And knowing Reid,he will kill Kagan’s nomination, get reelected then support someone even further to the left.
Nope...
“Do you respect the law of the land and the precedents of Chicago?” (Chicago substituted for Roe v Wade)
Her answer: “i’m not familiar with that case. or natural rights. or American Exceptionalism. or freedom.”
Didn’t some people here recently claim to have inside knowledge that the NRA would support her?
Ha! As if Senators Levin and Stabenow give a damn.
I believe that was NRA support for Reid.
I saw those. They were claims the NRA was ‘hinting’ at supporting him, I can’t find where they actually did. Sounded more like they were attempting to manipulate Reid.
Like the NRA is even relevant anymore, what a joke!
That is a good question. The powers of the Speaker to bring (or not to bring) things to a vote on the floor are without limit. I'm not sure about those same powers in the Senate that are wielded by the Leader.
I think (and this is only a guess), that is it possibly for Reid, or any Leader, to not have a confirmation vote on the floor, even though the nominee has successfully navigated the Committee vote.
We shouldn’t endorse anyonewithout some assurances of their future behavior. One step forward and two steps back is a net loss every time.
Virginia - here are two Senators, Webb and Warner, who I believe both enjoy positive NRA ratings.
If the NRA has ANY pull, Kagan should be toast. I'm not going to hold my breath.
I tried to resign my NRA membership after they threw in with Schumer on his the First Amendment assault (and the hand-holding with the creepy villain Reid confirms my exit decision); however they (the NRA) told me that I had to resign in writing.
That's a pain, so I'll just let my NRA membership lapse; and, I believe that thousands of members, just like me, will not be re-enlisting no matter how many tacks to the right (e.g. opposition to Kagan nomination) the NRA wants us to notice that it takes.
And membership out-migration is an even bigger statement than a letter.
.
The cynic in me sees it this way: The NRA will oppose Kagan — who everyone knows will be confirmed anyway. Then the NRA will endorse Reid who may not necessarily win reelection, but the NRA endorsement would certainly help.
So the question is what NRA action has more value? The opposition to Kagan — a sure bet nomination anyway? Or Reid, who is in a political dog fight?
I don’t know why the NRA is playing both sides of the fence with their signature issue. Are Dims depositing gobs of money into the NRA coffers? Or does the NRA like the gun issue to be more controversial and to keep gun owners on edge because, like it or not, this uncertainly dramatically increases gun sales and attention for the NRA.
Support Reid while opposing Kagan; that’s completely schizophrenic.
