As the NAACP considers a resolution condemning the Tea Party movement for alleged racism, the group's chairman Ben Jealous says the historic civil rights group should be more like the Tea Party.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Jealous' views along with similar sentiments by Sen. Roland Burris (D-IL) as the NAACP's annual convention gets underway in Kansas City:
Jealous' strategy for pulling the country back together might at first blush surprise those at the convention. His idea: Follow the lead of the Tea Party movement, which emerged in full force after the election of President Barack Obama with rallies, town hall meetings and a "take back the country" mantra.
But as the conference unfolded Sunday, the sentiments expressed by Jealous were echoed throughout the Kansas City Convention Center, where as many as 8,000 NAACP members are gathering.
...Roland Burris, the only African-American in the U.S. Senate, said NAACP members could either use the tactics of the Tea Party, or risk being defeated by them.
The statements by Jealous and Burris come at the same time as the NAACP will be voting on a resolution that attacks the Tea Party for alleged racism.
Two planks of the resolution as reported by the Kansas City Star:
Tea party supporters have engaged in explicitly racist behavior and displayed signs and posters intended to degrade people of color generally and President Barack Obama specifically.
Tea party activists have used racial epithets, have verbally and physically abused black members of Congress and others, and have been charged with threatening public officials.
As for why Obama supporters are lagging in their efforts, Jealous surprisingly didn't blame 'racist teabaggers'. Instead he claimed everyone was still tuckered out from the election nearly two years ago:
Jealous said people were exhausted by the efforts to get Obama elected.
"They should be rested by now," he said. "They need to get back on the battlefield."
Two months ago, the NAACP verbally attacked Kenneth Gladney, a Black man assaulted by unions goons at a Tea Party protest in Missouri last year, as an "Uncle Tom."
Gateway Pundit reported on the racist NAACP comments:
Back in the day, we used to call someone like that, and I want to remind you, uh, when this incident occurred, I was really struck by a front page picture of this guy, which we called, a Negro, I mean that we call him a Negro in the fact that he works for not for our people but against our people. In the old days, we call him an Uncle Tom. I just gotta say that. Here it is, the day after a young brother, a young man, I didnt mean to call him a brother, but on the front page of the Post Dispatch, ironically, hes sitting in a wheelchair, being kissed on the forehead, by a European. Now just imagine that as a poster child picture, not working for our people.
Nah, NAACP needs to be more like a racially inclined brothers....the new black panthers....since of course, there are NAACP members who are also members of the NBP....ironic, huh? =.=
I agree.
Patriotic and successful.
What a terrible thing it is to lose a mind. Or not have a mind.
Battle lines are being drawn....
NAACP Chairman Ben Jealous...
This is a put-on, right??
Irony can’t be *that* lost on these people....
America’s white people have just aboput had a bellyfull of being called racist, by racist black bigots.
I know I have.
They elected this Kenyan to be president, and he has screwed up like Hogan’s Goat and now when we say anything we are racist.
They can go crap in their hats.

“Ben Jealous” is an uncannily-perfect name for the head of the NAACP.
He’s just jealous of the Tea Parties’ recent successes.
Now we have the NAA'L'CP saying in one breath that the Tea Party are a bunch of white racists, and in the next saying, they need to be more like them. Huh?! What?! Gotta have sympathy for the mental deficiencies of liberals.
The National Association for the Abasement of Colored People.
WRONG!
It emerged when the health-care monster raised it's ugly head.
They're trying to make it sound racist by rewriting history...again.
The Tea Party is “racist” the good ol boys and girls at NAACP aren’t . . never have been, never will be.
We all know it’s inherently impossible for blacks to be racists
...what he’s really saying is that he wishes the NAACP had support from blacks...they don’t...Ben Jealous has to go hat-in-hand to Whitey begging for money from places like the Ford Foundation.
The NAACP reportedly pressured Holder to drop the charges against the NBP in the Phila voter intimidation case. But that wasnt racist behavior ...
The NAACP are professional racists.
