Mama Grizzlies (Palin's political skills come naturally)
Rightosphere ^ | Sunday July 11, 2010 | Dave Gaultier

Sarah Palin's "Mama Grizzlies" video is instructive inasmuch as it reveals a great deal about Sarah and the sort of campaign that she would run should she choose to throw her hat into the ring for 2012. First, the video makes it clear, as have the string of victories achieved by candidates that Palin has endorsed across the nation, that the former governor is a highly skilled politician. Given that she comes from a modest background and is pretty much entirely self-made, we can infer that her political skills come naturally to her and are not the consequence of, say, being a member of a political dynasty.

But more to the point, the "Mama Grizzlies" ad serves as a primer to the type of campaign that Palin would run. And the contrast between Palin's GOP and the Republican Party of Bush/Rove/McCain couldn't be more striking. The principal strategy of Bush/McCain, Inc, was one of division. Granted, this strategy won President Bush two elections, so in that sense it was a success. But as a medium-term or long-term political strategy, it stunk, and 2006 and 2008 serve as evidence of that.

In this sense, Palin is running as a small-p populist. She is representing the people against the powerful, who are denying the people their liberties and who are standing athwart the will of the people. Also, Palin is running as a citizen, leading an army of citizens against the federal government. But she is doing so in order to advance a First Principles, classical liberal and/or traditional conservative agenda. It's Reaganism, circa 2010, with taller heels and a different accent.

..."There's still a long way to go but I'm beginning to wonder if anyone in the Republican field can truly stop a fully operational Palin campaign. Her political skills at first glance appear to be eons beyond most of her competitors. That's something money can't buy. And she's up against a series of retreads, none of whom seemed particularly interesting the last time around. Democrats may be presently gleeful at the prospect of facing her. They shouldn't be...."

I said as much to the NY Times reporter who was interviewing people standing in line during her book release tour. My observation was that she had "the very best gut level political instinct" of any politician on the national scene.

If she's a truly good conservative, she knows she already has achieved the most important role possible - Mom of two kids in her house right now.

I hope that's why she quit being Gov of Alaska.

If she runs for office soon, I'll lose all respect for her. But, I don't think she will.

And if she feels a higher calling?

You’ll respect her only if she stays home with the kids? That’s a tad sexist.

I humbly submit that you are fixated on judging the tree, instead of seeing the forest that is following in the background!

I agree with your assessment. There are tsumani-level disasters coming our way, and the RINOs and Dems are still inviting their followers to play farther out on the beach.

Palin is taking the high ground, sounding the alarm, and people should listen. This will be the end of the RINOs.

People have to remember :

1. she beat an incumbent governor in the primaries - Rare indeed!!

2. She beat the incumbent governor with very little help from the Republican Party and very little money (Alaska Republicans almost threw her out of the party)

3. She defeated former governor Tony Knowles of Alaska in the general election

4. She lost the Lieutenant governors race but had virtually no money and she admitted later that she didn’t put her heart completely into it - but yet came in a close second!!***

And if she becomes President, she’ll still be the mother - and Todd will be the father - of those two children.

Parenthood is not so incredibly difficult as all that. Palin became a Mayor, then Governor, and succeeded wildly at both roles - and still managed to bring up her children.

Taylor came very close to being on trial for aggravated assault and only avoided jail time and a felony conviction by a deal which allowed him to walk and pay out to community service. I am sorry he was murdered but that does not make him a saint or upright citizen.

As for Platico Burress, he broke the law and needs to pay for it. I do strongly believe that Mayor Bloomberg is a jackass for throwing the book at Burress but he is no poster child for the second amendment.

Regarding Governor Palin, I would follow any political movement with her as the leader. She is a much better advocate for conservative causes in the United States than Romney, McCain or Graham!!!

So all conservative mothers who run for office, or who are serving now are not worthy of respect? Get ready to be flamed...

There are many women who have raised a big(by today's standards)family, kept a household, it's budget, managed a business, been a part of PTA, worked int the Little League concession stand, held positions on church boards, schoold boards, and county commissions, and on and on and on who have trained themselves to assess each situation as they enter into it. First question, who exactly is in charge here? If no one, you step to the plate and organize the chaos.

She is so much more qualified and experienced that most of those who have spent their lives in politics. She may not know everything about everything, but she knows how and to whom to delegate authority, and she is a good judge of character(not perfect, but good). She is learning who to ask the questions of. Her family is supportive, and personable.

Hopefully she or someone as qualified as she will survive our brutal vetting process where everyone wants the perfect candidate.

What we got now is perfect? So how’d he get there?

A politician long ago gave us the Teddy bear.

Why can’t Teddy get himself a long pined-for girlfriend, named Sarah?

I can’t hold her being loyal to the man who brought her to the national stage against her.

I’m surprised so many FReepers do.

She has, of course, endorsed McCain. However, she has also endorsed a number of candidates who ran as conservatives—and they won. Moreover, McCain is swerving sharply to right as we speak. I don’t know if she’s had anything to do with that, but McCain is now espousing at least one conservative issue—no amnesty for illegals.

I don’t think it will do him any good as far as reelection goes. For one thing it makes Hayward all that more credible. In the end, though, I think Arizonans will have had enough of McCain and will give Hayward a chance. November will not be a good year for incumbents. Their argument “experience counts” is answered “but you’re the people who brought on this terrible economy and the Marxist Onada”.
