It's interesting to try to divine the chicken-and-egg of Mel Gibson's firing by WME last week: Was it his (first-alleged, now aurally proved) misogynistic and racist comments that enabled the agency to part ways with him, or was it the death of longtime agent Ed Limato that did the trick?
Earlier today the news surfaced that William Morris Endeavor had split with Gibson last week-- as Limato lay seriously ill, and just several days after Radar Online broke the news that Gibson had verbally abused his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva by using the N-word. (The reports were just that until today, when audio of the Gibson incident was released on Radar.)
There's of course a third variable in all this -- the fact that Gibson just wasn't much of a bankable star anymore anyway.

Yes, slavery was a mistake and it seems you are one of the few on this thread that acknowledge that fact.
And if as you imply that 400,000 American “white men” died fighting to abolish slavery, you must also believe that hundreds of thousands of white “American” men died fighting to preserve slavery.
So that argument, If valid, is a bit of a wash.
I’m not advocating reparations for those whose ancestors fell victim to American slavery as it would be impossible to determine the value of the work completed with interest and who exactly would receive that money.
Instead, we must never whitewash the evils of slavery and be specific and honest when teaching of American slavery.
And while America is a great country, we must recognize our nations past ills along with our past accomplishments to advance freedom.

I don’t have a problem with the media exploiting private issues that involve criminal activity.
The point I’d like to make is that anger should not be deemed criminal based on it being highly offensive. The ‘line’ between inciting criminality and anger expressed in speech is anything but clear these days - at least from the perspective of the rancid political environment we’re in.
I’m not giving Gibson a pass for his verbal antics. And if the allegations of criminality prove to be true, he must be held accountable. This, however, is unrelated to the issue of society’s imperfect response to anger, and how that affects our Constitutional guarantees. We contribute to the process that rots our Liberties every time we agree with the control freaks that wish to regulate our speech and thoughts. This ‘cooperation’ often occurs whenever there are reports of bullying, antisemitism, Catholic bashing, racism, etc. - all morally unacceptable, but not necessarily criminal. This is of course about facilitating ‘speech rules’ that target the ambiguous, subjective nature of ‘hate speech’.
You should admit when you're wrong, not to assuage anyone's feelings, but rather to strengthen your overall argument. Here's a little advice for you: a debate is something like a tennis match. You don't have to win every point to be the overall victor. Mind you, I don't expect you to take this advice...it's becoming rapidly obvious that your self-admitted refusal to concede a point when you're incorrect is simply a defense mechanism for your (fragile?) ego. I grew up in the Deep South and have great respect for the Union Troops who fought to end slavery. However, I am sometimes amazed at how many wish to honor those who fought to maintain slavery.

I agree, FrankR. The accolades given to KKK Byrd are another good example of rewriting history to suit one’s agenda. There is such feigned outrage among Libs on this issue. I hear the N word all the time, but it’s black on black, NOT whites trashing blacks. I do think that Mel is emotionally off the rails. I’d love for him to experience redemption. There’s a genius and goodness about him. Don’t know where it is right now.

Like I said, I have great respect for the Union Troops who fought to end slavery however, Jim Crow Laws which followed the Civil War took back much of that sacrifice.
Furthermore, I do not advocate monetary reparations but rather an acknowledgment of the evils of slavery, and a commitment to teach of those evils for the remainder of American history.

... But Gibson did take meetings and did land several roles, and as sad as it is that someone with all this experience could walk the world in his own bubble of hate, it's perhaps sadder that it took so many of us this long to realize what should have been clear all along.
