Hatch calls Kagan filibuster 'dirty thing to do'
By Eric Zimmermann - 07/01/10 12:19 PM ET
A Republican filibuster of Elena Kagan would be "an unheard of, dirty thing to do," Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said Thursday.
Hatch, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, told ABC News's "Topline" today that his party won't prevent an up-or-down vote on Obama's SCOTUS nominee.
"Republicans aren't going to filibuster her," he said.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) is a dirty, stinking RINO.
I have a hard time even looking at him, much less listen to his dribble.
Forgivs poor Orrin, he still grieves over Teddy, his bestest pal.
I thought 'Borking' only works when the MSM is carrying your water - and broadcasting slander and innuendos non-stop.
Obviously the Republicans (or RINOs) don't have this 'tool' in their toolkit... But that aside, I agree with you that the Republican Senators need to grow a spine and fight this abominable selection for the Supreme Court. They can't 'Bork' (since they don't have the subversive 5th Column Media in the wings) - but they can still fight for the Country. If they have any guts.
Pathetic excuse of a human being. This jack-ass is supposed to be a social a conservative?! And he can’t stand up for the most important of issues.
IIRC the cloture rule in the Senate requires a 60% vote to stop a filibuster.
Hatch was soft on the impeachment of Clinton as well. I believe that the Clinton/FBI files had some dirt on him.
Let me see. The Dims sneak in Donald Berwick without even the slightest mention on who the guy even is and it’s the gutless Sen. Hatch who is on his knees promising to not be “dirty”.
The Rats have to be laughing their ***es off in the fact that they can again and again roll over the Rhinos with not as much as a whimper.
Actually, I take that back. A whimper would be a strong message coming from this group. What we actually get is Repubes tripping over themselves in promising to let every unqualified, radical appointee sail right through. Doesn’t matter who the nominee is because we get the GOP’s now standard CYA “Elections have consequences” BS.
Gutless. That’s the kindest description I have for senators like Hatch and his band of merry Rinos.
Hatch was the only one in my mind worth saving. IMHO throw him under the bus with the rest of them mccain and graham and all of them clean out the old folks home and send them all packing Term Limits whetther its voted on or not up and out period...............

yep. it was a braincramp. thanks for straightening me out.
There are currently 41 Republican senators. Thus, even before the death of Byrd, the Republicans could have sustained a filibuster (prevented a cloture vote).
You’re next Hatch.
Roberts was not filibustered and was confirmed 78-22. With Alito there was an attempted filibuster, but this was prevented by a cloture vote of 72-25 and he was confirmed 58-42. Obama did vote against confirmation in both cases and he also voted against cloture (for filibuster) of Alito.
Yes, Hatch needs to go!
Think you are right. In any case, filibustering is possible.
Here's yet another example.

Another Political get along kind of guy, AKA Useful Idiot.
So lets says a person who was nominated to the Supreme court by Obama or any other President was found to have killed someone or done something inherently evil they should not be fillibustered?
What is the point then really if there are no checks or balances why even have a congress if they are not going to do anything that is in the best interest of the country and the american people. I am disgusted with this congress and Orin Hatch after they destroy our countyr they get to ride off into the sunset while we all are marched into the rice pattys. And even if we vote them out they will sabotage so they screw us even after they are gone.
