LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A white former transit officer was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Thursday in the shooting death of an unarmed black man on an Oakland train platform in a 2009 encounter that set off days of rioting in the city.
The jury deliberated more than six hours over two days to convict Johannes Mehserle in the killing of 22-year-old Oscar Grant, who was shot to death as he lay face-down.

I will be back in 45 minutes. Let me know if anything happens.
I will check FR off my phone.
Thanks.
This feels like Rodney King, again.
I read part of the testimony, but apparently didn’t retain that, thanks for the correction. Same hand draw would be more accurate.
The guy was on the ground and hand-cuffed and then was murdered.
Ron Dellums reminds me of Marshall Applewhite
He was cutoff as soon as he stated racism is alive and well
Dellums has a long, long, history of race pimpery.

Mayor Red Dellums is playing the race card as he speaks to the verdict.. too many young black men dying.. justice was not served the fight continues for ‘justice’.. this is not the end of the road.. finally, expressing the anger. be respectful for the victim and the grieving family. find a way to seek the best in ourself. show the nation Oakland can respond to adversity with the appropriate spirit.
Mehserle will likely do a few years..
Grow up and stop spouting off crap you learned from watching too much TV or listening to too much gangsta rap.
And when someone steal the 22” spinners off your Kia, don’t go crying to your eyes out to the “Blue Gang”
Not according to the jury. They passed on the 1st degree murder
The judge took 1st degree murder off the table. The most he could have been convicted of was second degree.
How long was he in custody, anyway? Involuntary’s frequently time served and two to four years probation.
A cop not being charged does not mean did not commit a crime. All it means is he wasn’t charged.
A jury also passed on OJ. Juries can and do get it wrong, you know.
I honestly haven’t heard that much rhetoric about the race of the officer and the victim”
You don’t indicate where you live.
If you are anywhere near Calif-Ore-Nevada- it has been hammered at us ad nauseum.
Yes, of course juries can get it wrong, it's not like the stupid BART cop was acquitted. he is going to jail after all.
IMHO, not long enough, but he is going
As for the cops being uniformed street gangs, whatever man! Hope you don't ever need 911! And it was actually the opposite of cold blood.
Johannes Mesehrle killed a civilian who was in custody. It may or may not have been an accident. He got involuntary manslaughter with only 2-4 years.
Meserhle was a cop. Frederick was not. Exactly how is that fair?
The prosecutor got the verdict he and the government wanted.
In almost all cases, a prosecutor can manipulate the trial to get the verdict he wants when the defendant is another government employee. You’ve heard the saying that a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich? That same prosecutor can almost always not get an indictment if that is the result he wants.
until you are a cop and have a mob surround you and have to make a decision in the heat of battle maybe you should hold off on the absolute harsh sentiments.
That's the same type of argument that says only black people can criticize Barack Obama because only they really know what it's like to be a black person in America. In other words, it's not a valid argument at all.
He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, which is lighter still--in fact, the least serious degree of homicide.
