Back during the President Bush years I kept running into people claiming the Republicans were the ones wanting to reinstate the draft. One person (my daughter’s Judo teacher) even went so far as to say “you lie!” when I told him it was a Democrat. I brought him a copy of a news article showing it was the Dems. He never brought it up again.

Rangel does not support the military as a defense against foreign enemies.

He is either promoting a jobs program - or a civilian militia for future civil unrest.

Free countries don’t need slave armies.

This is so fraking obvious. Rangel wants to bring back those happy golden years of “Hell no, we won’t go!”

He wants to cripple the U.S. military by filling it with unwilling conscripts. He wants riots on campuses and mass demonstrations in the streets.

Also, he’s doubtlessly in that time warp common to all civil rights “heroes” and thinks that the Army of today is just like the Army of 1950.

“Rangel wants draft back to punish rich kids”

B.S - he wants to see the military filled with resentful draftees that will cause problems and ruin efficiency. It kills him and the other liberals that we have the best military in the world - and it is all volunteer.

And because it is volunteer, it is made up of the FINEST in our society. People that would never follow obviously illegal orders, as might be issued some day the the fruit-bat currently in the White House!

And how exactly did the draft force rich kids to serve back when it was in force? Anyone who had money was able to sidestep the draft if he/she so chose.

Good luck to him. I’m sure his unimpeachable moral authority carries more weight now than ever.

Obama said the same thing, in so many words:

Oh, Charlie's been performing this impious “street theater” for years going back nearly a decade. He's kinda’ like a geezer uncle that keeps repeating the same stories at Thanksgiving and Christmas forever. Come to think of it, Rangel is exactly like my crazy uncle, and he's doing the same thing.

As long as either has an audience (family/media) that will put up with it, they'll keep doing it. He's getting paid quite a lot to keep telling the same story though. You'd think he'd come up with some new material.

Democrat draft, back again.

Remember back in 2004 when the meme (all over MTV especially) was that Boosh wanted to bring back the DRAFT?

And then the Republicans exposed that the only legislation in the House and Senate to bring back the Draft was exclusively sponsored by Democrats? Democrats who refused to even vote on their own bill?

Bonehead must not be aware of the PSAs that run regularly reminding young men turning 18 that they have to sign up for selective service or risk being eligible for a stated list of government benefits. The law is already in place. He's grandstanding again. Besides, the military has all the people it can handle right now. You have to be very careful if you are in the military as they are looking for any excuse to boot you out. The massive levels of unemployment have lots of folks wishing the military was an employment option. We have no need of a draft.

Let's not forget that Barney Frank is pushing big cuts in the military at the same time bonehead Rangel is yammering about a draft. The RATS can't even sing from the same sheet of music.

The military does not want a draft, only social engineers want a draft. We don’t fight from trenches or make on-line charges against fortified positions anymore, we don’t need zombies with a gun. We need intelligent, motivated patriots, not whinny nosed punks who don’t want to be there.
