Democratic senator's lead shrinks in California: poll
Reuters ^ | 07/08/10

(Reuters) - Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer's edge over Republican challenger Carly Fiorina has dwindled to 3 points as she seeks re-election in November, with more Californians now holding an unfavorable view of the three-term senator, a poll released on Thursday showed.

Boxer, who once held a 30-point lead over Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard and a political novice, is now ahead by a margin of only 47 percent to 44 percent, the Field Poll found.

One of President Barack Obama's staunchest allies who has become a powerful liberal voice in the Senate since she was first elected in 1992, Boxer is facing her toughest challenge yet, as a wave of anti-incumbent sentiment sweeps the nation.

California, normally a reliably Democratic state suffering from double-digit unemployment and a budget deficit running into tens of billions of dollars, is considered a potential bellwether in the coming congressional elections.

The Field Poll found that since January more Californians have become disgruntled with Boxer, with 52 percent of likely voters holding an unfavorable view of her, compared with just 41 percent who regard her favorably.

Boxer's ratings have dropped to some of the lowest levels of her 18-year career in the Senate, with only 42 percent of registered voters approving of her job performance and 43 percent disapproving.

Yep, but her support for this http://www.hotr.us/data/mccainagain.html with over $250k in direct contributions and fund raising means nothing.

Well, so much for serious investigation.

What horse? What water?

The fact remains that Palin waited until days before the voting started, which gave Devore a year to see if he could put together a campaign, he never did.

Days before ballots started to be sent in, with Campbell breezing to victory at 35% and front runner status, Palin endorsed his only true challenger, someone with the money and name recognition that not only stood a chance to defeat Campbell, but that could put together enough of a machine to defeat Boxer.

Fiorina ended up winning the primary against Tom Campbell with 57%, Devore was never in the running to win that primary.

Ansel, Palin endorsed Fiorina more than a month before the election.

Ansel, Palin endorsed Fiorina more than a month before the election.

That's right, days before voting started, California is a very big absentee voting state.

As I said, you have no clue and are a bad as Barry H.

Very few of us like McLame. As a matter of fact I have sent $ to defeat the guy. BUT I VOTED FOR HIM OVER A MUSLIM TERRORIST COMMUNIST DICTATOR EXTREME LIBERAL RAT NAZI PIG. People like you would want Hitler or Stalin over a RINO.

Answer this for us all. The rats bring back Hitler and run him against the RINO, who do you support. If you do not answer this stay off this sight as you are a disgrace. I see Boxer as Hitler.

You just do not get it. It is people like you who are responsible for Barry H and all his socialist work. How do you like Death Care? All R’s voted against it, RINO and conservative. RINO’s right now are holding the line against a near super majority in the senate, a large delta in the house and the WH.

“What horse? What water?”

Ok, I get it now. You’ve got a huge axe to grind with McCain, so you are going to prattle on with semi-coherency. Perhaps you even enjoy just irritating others here, I don’t know, and don’t want to know.

I looked at that site when you first posted it, even though it wasn’t to me. It’s barely readable, but I do see where whoever is behind the site, (you?), cites that McCain’s PAC supports Fiorina. Pretty damning stuff, I guess. By the way, whoever put that site together didn’t know enough to put a title into the html.

The website I linked to is well done, readable, with testimony from people who worked for Fiorina. They also suffered when she tanked the stock 60% from $52 to around $20 a share. The HP crowd mentions the offshoring and loss of about 15k jobs in Fiorina’s list of “accomplishments”.

I’d still vote Fiorina over Boxer, but I think it’s important to know what you’re getting. The site is worth a look:

“How do you feel about boxer’s leadership abilities.”

As I posted further down, I’d vote Fiorina over Boxer, but it’s important for the CA voters to know who Fiorina is, and what she’s about.

The way I see it, it’s like having a job opening, and my two applicants are Charles Manson and Bernie Madoff. Sure, I’m hiring Madoff, but I’m going to watch him like a hawk.

Hi Doughty. You're not going to find me trying to take a bite out of you, but at least you have to admit that replacing Barbara Boxer with Fiorina is a preferable outcome -- whatever little good it may do.

“I hope against hope that the scales will fall from the eyes of CA voters this fall and flip that old shrew out of her seat.”

The whole ball game will turn on turnout. The congressional district that I live in had a primary recently to nominate a republican to run against a democrat incumbent. It is historically a republican district that lost to the incumbent two years ago. Three Republicans ran in the primary and they shared a measly 7.2% turnout. Until the citizens of this country get off their assets and begin to vote, the turnout machines of the unions will continue to stack the deck with Obama clones.

The media KNOW better, but they keep saying it...it ain’t anti-incumbency going on here.

Voting started about 6 days after Palin's endorsement.

As I said, you have no clue and are a bad as Barry H.

Yep, and I let it slide.  Those comments alone places you in the land of insanity.

Very few of us like McLame.

Yes, I see folks all over the forum saying that, but when it comes to the person appointed to be his Campaign Fundraising Chairman LINK, now there's a person worthy of our support.

People like me don't support Hitler or Stalin.  And we don't support RINOs because they stand by silently while Hitlers and Stalins do their dirty work.

Answer this for us all. The rats bring back Hitler and run him against the RINO, who do you support. If you do not answer this stay off this sight as you are a disgrace. I see Boxer as Hitler.

Boxer is not Hitler.  She hasn't rounded up Jews.  She hasn't carted them off to death camps.  She hasn't ordered them to be used in inhuman experaments.  She hasn't ordered them to be executed.

That you would have to stoop this low to defend Fiorina, reveals just how out of gas you are.

You just do not get it.

Oh, I get it quite clearly.  Boxer=Hitler, so anything else would be better...

It is people like you who are responsible for Barry H and all his socialist work.

Yep, and all the folks who voted for Barry H. had nothing to do with it.  OBTW, John has been congratulating Barry on a lot of what he has been doing.  How does that sit with you?

How do you like Death Care? All R’s voted against it, RINO and conservative. RINO’s right now are holding the line against a near super majority in the senate, a large delta in the house and the WH.

Did the Republicans bother to filibutster that bill? Ah.................................................................................................................................................. NO!

Yes we know Fiorina is not the second coming, a requirement for some in our party for their vote.

We are the stupid party for a reason. We will cut off our nose to spite our face. That is how Barry H became president. Now we have death care and many other wonderful things today as a result.

Sad. This country will not survive the stupidity of the American people, in both parties.

Thanks for your reply. I guess you are, indeed delusional. You apparently have confused Free Republic with the state of California. Maybe you live there, too? That might explain it.
