Democratic senator's lead shrinks in California: poll

(Reuters) - Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer's edge over Republican challenger Carly Fiorina has dwindled to 3 points as she seeks re-election in November, with more Californians now holding an unfavorable view of the three-term senator, a poll released on Thursday showed.

Boxer, who once held a 30-point lead over Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard and a political novice, is now ahead by a margin of only 47 percent to 44 percent, the Field Poll found.

One of President Barack Obama's staunchest allies who has become a powerful liberal voice in the Senate since she was first elected in 1992, Boxer is facing her toughest challenge yet, as a wave of anti-incumbent sentiment sweeps the nation.

California, normally a reliably Democratic state suffering from double-digit unemployment and a budget deficit running into tens of billions of dollars, is considered a potential bellwether in the coming congressional elections.

The Field Poll found that since January more Californians have become disgruntled with Boxer, with 52 percent of likely voters holding an unfavorable view of her, compared with just 41 percent who regard her favorably.

Boxer's ratings have dropped to some of the lowest levels of her 18-year career in the Senate, with only 42 percent of registered voters approving of her job performance and 43 percent disapproving.

Like I said I do not know the woman but I do know that boxer is an evil b!tch and that this Carly woman did an excellent job when diane sawyer interviewed her. If she governs like she campaigned on abc... she will do fine. Watch her and hold her feet to the fire... that is if boxer does not get sent back to help harry become majority leader again.

The only silver lining of voting for a RINO versus the democrat is the very first vote of either House. The vote is for the Speaker (in the House) or Majority Leader (in the Senate). With only two exceptions in US history (IIRC), has one member of a party voted against his on party. And, I will take 20% voting with the Repubs versus 0% with the Repubs. Otherwise yuck, I want to scream along with you as to having to vote for a RINO. McCain anyone?

That’s a good fair point.

Look, these folks campaign for months. They tell us how they’ll be strong on the border. Then within a week after they get the nomination, they’re out talking to Hispanic groups telling them they’re their best friend.

I have had it with this ilk. If the vast majority of Republicans want that type of person to lead them, then they can have those people to lead them.

They do not lead me.

OK Barbara, shouldn’t you be campaigning somewhere?
Remember McLame and Fiorina are the enemies of the state and you and Barry are the true hero’s of the new revolution.

“Why is it that no other state in that real outside world contributes as much to this forum as Californian’s do?”

Is it not probable that there are more Californians registered here? No need to reply.

You’re suggesting California has more people registered here than any other state? Perhaps you’re right. California may be the most represented state here in numbers as well as by donation. Thanks for raising the point.

“I believe you are a Democrat troll.”

Not likely. This poster has been here as long as I can remember and I have been on here over 10 years I believe. Like other hard core purists it seems that he/she has few if any other interests outside of this site.

Why is it that no other state in that real outside world contributes as much to this forum as Californian’s do?

With a population of 37 million people, it is impossible for California to not be the most represented.

That is more than 12,000,000 people more than the second largest state, and 24,000,000 more people than state number five.

The U. S. Census Bureau states:

2009 Estimate Ca: 36,961,964

2009 Estimate Tx: 24,782,302

2009 Estimate Fl: 18,573,969

2009 Est Tx & Fl: 43,356,271

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/06000.html

Texas and Florida combined, with 117.3% of California’s population have donated 78.6% of what California has.

I have mentioned this good-naturedly before, to set up a bit of competition between states. It still gets a little old watching folks from other states trash mine.

It’s one thing having to drag the Democrats in California with us, but having to drag the Republican leadership with us is just too much.

I haven’t been in California in several years, but we both live in the United States. Whatever happens in the election of members of congress, it effects us all. Stick your head in the sand, dig your feet into the turf and watch this once great nation evaporate.

As for me, I’m through with this give and take with you. It is a waste of time.

Wasn’t a waste of time when you made that post I responded to, trying to slam me for spending too much time here, as if Conservatives spending 24 hours a day here would be some sort of a bad thing.

When we get Carly Fiorina in there, it will be literally impossible to replace her with a reasoned Conservative. She will serve as a block, to prevent getting any wholesome candidate in there for decades.

Okay, that’s fine with you since it effects your state too. Well it isn’t fine with me.

We need better than this. If you can’t grasp that, you’re right not to waste our time on this further.

I think you are correct about the dollar amounts, I was reffering to the number of checks written.

It just astounds me that there are no consequences, or that the consequences are to be elected to the Senate after such criminal behavior in the house.
