(Reuters) - Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer's edge over Republican challenger Carly Fiorina has dwindled to 3 points as she seeks re-election in November, with more Californians now holding an unfavorable view of the three-term senator, a poll released on Thursday showed.
Boxer, who once held a 30-point lead over Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard and a political novice, is now ahead by a margin of only 47 percent to 44 percent, the Field Poll found.
One of President Barack Obama's staunchest allies who has become a powerful liberal voice in the Senate since she was first elected in 1992, Boxer is facing her toughest challenge yet, as a wave of anti-incumbent sentiment sweeps the nation.
California, normally a reliably Democratic state suffering from double-digit unemployment and a budget deficit running into tens of billions of dollars, is considered a potential bellwether in the coming congressional elections.
The Field Poll found that since January more Californians have become disgruntled with Boxer, with 52 percent of likely voters holding an unfavorable view of her, compared with just 41 percent who regard her favorably.
Boxer's ratings have dropped to some of the lowest levels of her 18-year career in the Senate, with only 42 percent of registered voters approving of her job performance and 43 percent disapproving.

Perhaps you’ve stumbled across the wrong web site.
From where I sit, DoughtyOne, replacing Boxer with someone will vote differently 20% of the time (your premise) is an improvement.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, laddie.
Just make sure YOUR congresstwit gets booted this November.
Now, it appears that “pure-water conservatives” don't want certain Republicans elected; because they have a less-than-pristine voting record. An improvement of 90% won't do — nothing less than 100% conservative (as defined by ...?) will do.
Well, I’m not convinced she’ll vote with us 80%.
Even if she did, she’ll get a foothold on a seat where she’ll spend the next thirty years killing us on issue after issue.
“She cant be that stupid.”
I think she’s a bright individual. I also think that she has demonstrated that she lacks leadership ability.
Nah, I’ll be content with reminding you that you supported her every time she betrays you over the next thirty years.
Actually the front runner for the republican primary, and the one that Fiorina defeated to win the primary was Tom Campbell.
Campbell supports abortion rights and gay marriage, and argues that Boxers greatest asset against either of his two Republican opponents, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, would be the states decidedly un-conservative social views.
She has always been able to move the debate over to the social issues. She will not be able to do that against me, Campbell told POLITICO.
During the campaign for U.S. Senate in 2000, Campbell touted his 100 percent pro-choice voting record. He opposed a ban on partial birth abortions, one of the most horrific abortion practices. (Conservatives Agonize Backing Campbell, Roll Call, August 7, 2000.)
Campbell in 1992 made abortion the center stage of his campaign. In the 1992 election, Campbells TV ad ran with the following caption: For choice, for jobs, for U.S. Senate. In another ad, he said, Im pro-choice and one of the most conservative members of Congress when it comes to spending. In a Republican debate, he described his abortion views, as good for voters looking for someone who is willing to break with the party line from time to time. (Gerry Braun, Herschensohn Wont Pledge to Back GOP Pick; Senate Opponents Renew Acrimony in Last Debate, San Diego Union Tribune, June 1, 1992.)
Look, she’s a leftist. If you wish to refuse to accept it, then go ahead and support her. I won’t have to give you grief over it. She will...
Poor California! They have a choice between Boxer and Fiorina and no option for either “None of the above” or “Joseph Stalin”!!
With only those two choices, I might consider staying home. Both of these women are nuts and neither one should be eligible to run for political office because both of them are nuts!!
(Did I say that they are both nuts??)
Yes....and I’ll raise you another $250K. You’re wrong on this one.
ROFLMAO!
This might be an interesting read for those that really want to investigate:
I’m not a fan of Campbell. The fact remains, Fiorina benefited a great deal by being targeted by Palin for support. If that support had gone to DeVore, it would have given him great name recognition and all he would have had to do is achieve 35% or so to achieve the nomination.
Fiorina raised her numbers by something like 32%. If DeVore had just raised his by 20%, he would probably have won.
Look, Fiorina is not one of us. Folks that hawk her like she is, are only helping the left.
Boxer has run her course. She’s ready to be unseated, but now we’re going to do it with someone who will pick up the ball and move it forward pretty much like she would have.
We never learn...
Then here, this is what you’ll get for the money...
And you think I’m wrong...

You have to hope that if a critical mass of Republicans/conservatives get into office and feel the empowerment of the people, they may stop trying to appease the Democrats/liberals/socialists. At least for their first two years in office.

This is like linking me to the NYTs to find real truth about liberalism.
Here you link me to Carly’s site, to find truth on Carley. What honest non-partisan information do you expect me to find there?
While there may be truth there, there is also undoubtedly spin to Fiorina’s favor there too. Which is which?
Serious investigation would not begin here IMO.
“Serious investigation would not begin here IMO.”
You can lead a horse to water...
Did you even LOOK at the site?! Yes, it has Carly’s name, technology workers are clever that way. It’s a site started by current and former HP employees to give their view of Carly Fiorina’s qualifications.
www.carly-fiorina.com
We can all hope for that.
What you’ll find is that their votes look pretty good, but then some of them will be lofting new legislation with some of the worst Democrats just like their mentor in Arizona has.
