Springfield, Ill. - More than 40,000 unionized state workers got a pay raise last Thursday, bringing to 7 percent the amount they're gotten since last year. These same state employees are in line for another 7 percent by next July 1, all at a cost of a half-billion tax dollars a year.
It's more than the virtually bankrupt state can afford, and some Republican lawmakers say the raises need to be rolled back.

“It’s more than the virtually bankrupt state can afford”
There aint no ‘virtually’ about it.
Government is not a waste to those that are paid by it. It is a bonanza, and they and theirs vote.
Yeah, you’re right. We should quit voting, contesting primaries with Conservative candidates (and winning) and participating in Tea Party activities NOW. ;)
Last year everyone in my company had to take a 5% pay CUT. This year they have gradually given us the percentage back, we are getting the last 2% back next pay day. I have no idea when we will actually get raises again. BTW, this pay cut was so that people wouldn’t have to be laid off. (there were some but it would have been more) It makes me sick that these damn government union workers get what ever the hell they want, and sponge off the backs of hard working private citizens who actually make sacrifices. a—holes.
“Of course, Illinois is also begging for Federal bailouts. They think the whole country deserves the privilege of supporting their State workers in lavish wages and benefits.”
Amazing how similar that is to KalifornIuh.
This announced right on the heels of IL’s treasury insolvency? Move over California, you are about to have your crown for the stupidest state taken away.
“give 25% salary cuts like we got hit with where i work so the company could make it thru the hard period....”
It’s time they dealt with a wee dose of reality.
Starting in earnest 11/2/2010.
“OK, let them keep their raise. But, sort the unionized work force in decending order by salary then start laying them off until you’ve reached half a billion dollars. Then add a few more as a fudge factor.”
There’s a good suggestion. REALITY CHECK!
Why are ANY tax payer funds going to unions?
“business as usual for unions, politicians and special interests.”
Are they simply insane? Do they KNOW how much pain is out there? And flaunting this? How can this stand?!?
hell with it.... I’m out to buy more ammo. That always makes me feel better!
‘Sorry Oceander - The dems in Illinois would say,”that’s a lie. I’m a democrat and I didn’t get a raise.”’
Right, but I think they may then reassess why they’re not in the insiders club! That’s not a bad thing. Maybe it *would* make them think for once? On the other hand, a good number of them might just jump up and down, scream and agitate for ‘their’s’.
oh okay, I guess that’s why they jacked up my license renewal fee by $20 this year.
...bastards.
“This is being partially funded with money from the fake stimulus billions.”
Right - blatant, naked, assanine partisanship using our hard earned $$s. SICK.
Hmmm, looking at that list, is it any wonder why this state is going down?
“But if you were running a production plant you would or could, fold total costs into the few widgets that met customer standards, so another way of looking at urban, Democrat party, union teacher plant cost is that a post one year student cost somewhere around a 100,000/year times 12 years.”
That could fund an amazing private education - with a pretty good profit margin. We definitely need more and more private sector involvement in education - and to break up the idiotic gubmint monopoly.
Oh, that’s their sacred cow, that one though. As you say the ‘mind grinder.’
I live in illinois, we do not elect these communist bastards.
The dead, undead, unions, poor uneducated welfare recipient non tax paying, dumbass liberal pukes keep re-electing these pols.
